Arlene professed faith in Christ and was a devoted Christian and member of Good Hope Baptist Church.

Arlene united in marriage with Larry Smith on September 28, 1984. He preceded her in death on May 28, 2010.

Throughout life, Arlene worked in a few different fields and was always a dedicated employee and hard worker. She started her career as a Cosmetologist and later retired from factory work. Trials came as she was diagnosed with cancer twice but instead of letting it get her down she persevered, fought, never gave up, and overcame to live a fulfilling life. Her strength was admirable. When her husband Larry passed, she couldn’t sit still so she went to work at JC Penney where she thoroughly enjoyed working with the public. In 2015 she started employment at Taylor Regional Hospital in ER registration. There she found her people and an abundance of joy and reward in her work. When she transferred to work in the lab, she was already known as Granny to some, but soon became a friend and Granny to many. Working at TRH, she touched many hearts and did as any grandma would- she gave advice, made sure you ate, was there to lean on, and most importantly shared her love of Jesus. Her co workers quickly became her chosen family, including a special friend, Marsha Allen who she worked with for years and loved dearly. Granny treasured those relationships and they truly kept her going. At the center of her life was her faith and she wanted nothing more than to be with Jesus someday.

Granny liked to spend her time surrounded by family. She was always down to cook a meal and play some cards. Her other hobbies included going to church, gardening, crocheting, canning vegetables, cooking/baking, and teaching those skills to her future generations. In her home, the news was always on as she was a Fox News Enthusiast. Granny had the greenest thumb and spent many days working sun up to sun down in the garden. She was always the life of the party and her sassy and spunky self filled any room with joy and laughter as she specialized in breath taking belly laughs. She created a loving home for her family where everyone knew they were always welcome.

Stanley McCubbin Jr, 66, Campbellsville, KY

Stanley McCubbin Jr, 66, of Campbellsville, KY, son of Betty Daffron McCubbin and the late Stanley McCubbin Sr., was born December 27, 1957 in Campbellsville, and departed this life on Friday, November 29, 2024 in Danville, KY.

Junior was a longtime employee of McCubbin and Sons Farm Equipment working with his dad. He served for many years on the Taylor County Fair Board. He most recently worked at J. Edwards and Sons Trucking. Junior was a long-time trucker, farmer, and businessman. Junior professed faith in Christ and spent many years attending Liberty Baptist Church in Spurlington. He recently had been attending Feathersburg First Church of God. He served as a youth leader at many churches in the community. Junior truly had a servant’s heart.

JR was a proud board member of the Taylor County Fair Association, having served for many years on the board and even holding presidency for one year. JR was a giver, a giver of his heart, a giver of his time. A true genuine volunteer, who showed up and got the job done, without taking credit, or wanting a pat on his back! He over seen the fair concession stand and could be found on the grill with a big grin on his face. When JR was the grill master you knew the food would be tender and juicy, cooked to perfection! Having this responsibility is something him and his wife Kathy took seriously. They would created a supply list, and gather the items needed to cater to 14,000 people in attendance that week. No easy task! He would even take his vacation the week of the fair to better serve his community. Recently we purchased new bleachers that needed assembling, JR would be the first one their on Saturday mornings and always thinking of new events to host at the fairgrounds or to put a new spin on some old ones. We will deeply miss his presents with us at the meetings, lending advice or just cutting up, he would always have a comment about something!
