Sherry Raffety, 58, of Campbellsville, KY, daughter of James R. “Boody” Benningfield and the late Shirley McNear Benningfield, was born November 21, 1964 in Marion County, KY. She died at 9:36 A.M. on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 in Louisville.

 

She professed faith in Christ and was a member of Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church. Sherry was employed as a medical assistant. She loved everyone; she was a good friend and caregiver like no other. She loved to laugh and joke and was an inspiration to others. Her family called her “The Queen.”

Maye Smith Gore, 77, of Campbellsville, KY, daughter of the late Edwin “Rube” Smith and Beryl “Bea” Goff Smith, was born February 6, 1946 in Taylor County, Kentucky.  She died at 12:26 P.M., Monday, May 22, 2023 in Campbellsville.

 

She professed faith in Christ and was a member of New Journey Church. Maye was an employee of Fruit of the Loom in Campbellsville for twenty years and an employee of Taylor Regional Hospital for 15 years. She liked to be outside and working in her flowers and enjoyed spending time with her special cat, Callie Jo.

 

She united in marriage to Eddie Greer August 14, 1964 and he preceded her in death on October 31, 1977. She later united in marriage to H.C. Gore on July 1, 1978 and he preceded her in death on December 14, 2018.

Virginia Cole Caffee, 88, of Campbellsville, KY, daughter of the late George Beckham Cole and Nina Fudge, was born February 2, 1935 in Adair County, KY. She died Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at Bluegrass Way Assisted Living in Campbellsville.

 

She professed faith in Christ and attended Spurlington United Methodist Church. Virginia was a retired Teller at the Bank of Columbia and did numerous jobs at the bank over her 42 year career.

 

She united in marriage to Floyd Caffee August 29, 1977 and he preceded her in death June 5, 1991.

Milton Bloyd, 83, of Summersville, KY, son of the late Edward C. Bloyd and Gladys May Marcum Bloyd, was born May 23, 1940 and departed this life on May 24, 2023 at his home. 

 

He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Liberty Missionary Baptist Church. He was a farmer, long time truck driver, worked at Greensburg Bottling Company, Central Motors, and Larry Glass Construction.

 

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Kitty Bush Bloyd, on January 29, 2015 having united in marriage on September 22, 1978.

Barbara Ellen Caulk Edwards, 88, of Elizabethtown, KY (formerly of Greensburg), daughter of the late Albert Caulk and Dorothy Overton Caulk, was born on Thursday, August 9, 1934 and departed this life on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at her home. 

 

She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Greensburg Baptist Church. She was a homemaker who fiercely loved her family. Her sharp words of wisdom and wit will be deeply missed by all.

 

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Brooks Mason Edwards on November 30, 2006 having united in marriage on December 21, 1955; a sister, Wanda McHargue; a brother-in-law, Noah “Ed” Loy; and son-in-law, John Mitchell.

Benny Joe Humphress, 73, Campbellsville, KY

 

Benny Joe Humphress, 73, of Campbellsville, KY died peacefully on May 20, 2023 at the VA Hospital in Lexington, surrounded by those he loved. He was born in Campbellsville on May 31, 1949 to the late Joe and Christine Hoosier Humphress.


Mr. Humphress was a Vietnam Veteran serving proudly in the U.S. Navy. He went on after his time in the service to retire from Fruit of the Loom shipping department in Campbellsville. He later went on to serve as a sergeant at Kentucky State Reformatory in La Grange where he retired as well. He was a member and deacon at Robinson Creek Baptist Church.

He professed faith in Christ and was a member of Otter Creek Separate Baptist  Church. Ervin was a farmer and logger by trade, he enjoyed being in the woods, hunting ginseng, farming and spending time with his cattle.

Houston Jenkins, 90, of Campbellsville, KY passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 in Jamestown. 

 

He was a former resident of Adair County and lived for several years in Campbellsville. Houston was an original member of the Melody Aires Quartet singing the bass part. He and the Melody Aires sang Gospel music for many years in churches throughout Kentucky and surrounding states. He loved his family, church family, and friends. Houston loved to fish and hunt, and was a devoted University of Kentucky Wildcat basketball fan.

 

Houston was a professed Christian. He loved the Lord and was a member of Campbellsville First Church of God.

  

He was preceded in death by the "love of his life", Ruth Ann Stayton Jenkins, in May 2014; his parents, Elvin & Susan Anna Jeffries Jenkins of Metcalfe County; and a sister, Elgia Jenkins of Metcalfe County.

Kevin was a Program Manager for Advanced Manufacturing Engineering. He loved his family fiercely and enjoyed the outdoors. Kevin loved to spend time boating, driving his RZR, traveling, keeping his lawn and landscape meticulously maintained, and more than anything he loved being with family.

Millard Randall Carney, 85, of Elk Horn, KY (Bass Ridge), the son of the late Stanley and Grace (Ross) Carney, was born July 4, 1937 in Knifley, KY and departed this life on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 in Somerset at the Jean Waddle Care Center. 
 
Millard had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Raikes Hill Baptist Church, where he was known as the church hugger. He was a former logger, having owned and operated Carney Logging. Millard enjoyed hunting, playing cards, cornhole, family games of all kinds, walking and being outdoors, spending time with family and friends and making people smile.

She enjoyed watching her TV shows, drawing and artwork, riding around sightseeing, but most of all, taking care of her little dog Gizmo and watching her hummingbird feeder.

Edwin “Ed” Breeding Cheatham, 65, of Campbellsville, KY, son of Maurice Allen Cheatham and Juanita Breeding Cheatham, was born March 8, 1958 in Taylor County, KY. He died at 9:47 A.M., Thursday, May 11, 2023 in Campbellsville after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

 

He professed his faith in Christ and was a member of Campbellsville Christian Church. Ed was a major account executive with Windstream. He was a member of the Greensburg Masonic Lodge #54 F & AM, the Scottish Rite and Kosair Shriners. He dearly loved his daughters and was proud of exceeding his goals providing for them.  He was very friendly and sociable and his favorite place to be was on the lake.

Joseph Stephen “Steve” Durrett, 68, of Green County, KY, son of the late Rev. Ancil "Bug" Durrett and Wilma Hall Durrett, was born June 29, 1954 in Louisville, KY and departed this life on Thursday, May 11, 2023 in Elizabethtown.

 

He had made a profession of faith in Christ, was a deacon and member of the Oak Forest Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was a retired Conservation Technician for Natural Resource Conservation Service and was a farmer. He sang bass and played guitar for the Gospel Singing Durrett Family and loved to hunt and fish.

 

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Tammy Larimore Durrett on June 20, 2000 having united in marriage on April 2, 1983.

He later united in marriage to Stella Curry Durrett of Green County on December 27, 2008 (who survives).

Aileen was an excellent cook and her family was the most important thing to her. She loved her flowers and gardening.

 

She united in marriage to Woodruff Joe Harrison March 20, 1948 and he preceded her in death December 29, 1973.

Mary united in marriage to Lonza Druin January 1, 1947 and he preceded her in death August 2, 2004. She later united in marriage to Lynwood Durham April 15, 2006 and he preceded her in death January 5, 2009.

William Anthony "Tony" Clements, 80, Greensburg, KY

 

Tony Clements, 80, of Greensburg, KY, son of the late Leonard Augustus Clements and Dorothy Anna Stillwell Clements, was born in Jefferson County, KY on January 9, 1943. He died at 4:27 A.M., Monday, May 1, 2023 in Campbellsville. 

 

He was a member of Our Lady of the Caves Catholic Church in Horse Cave. Tony served his country honorably in the United States Army. He was a retired electrical mechanic for GE. Tony was a wonderful husband, father, brother and grandfather. He was a veteran, a foodie, a storyteller, a collector, a hunter and fisherman, a jack-of-all trades and a hard-working and devoted family man. He could talk your ear off for hours. He could be really serious but also give silly faces, a little mischievous giggle and tell a joke you never saw coming.

Wilma Jean Grawemeyer, 84, Greensburg, KY

 
Wilma Jean Grawemeyer, 84, of Greensburg, KY, a daughter of the late William Leonard “W.L.” Matney and May Kemp Matney, was born on July 27, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois and departed this life on Monday, May 1, 2023 at Jane Todd Crawford Hospital.

 

She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Ninth & O Baptist Church in Louisville, KY. Mrs. Grawemeyer was retired and had formerly worked for Sam Meyers Warehouse in Louisville.

 

Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death in 1988 by her husband, Gary Grawemeyer having united in marriage on June 13, 1959.

James Joshua Brown, 68, of Greensburg, KY, son of the late Clarence Brown and Betty Spring Brown, was born on January 14, 1955 in Hornell, New York and passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at his home.

 

He was a Pipeline inspector for many years and also served in the United States Marine Corp.
