Peggy Frances Litton, 83, Flat Top Lake, West Virginia (Campbellsville, KY native)

Peggy Frances Litton, 83, of Flat Top Lake, West Virginia passed away on Friday, January 19, 2024. She was born March 21, 1940 in Campbellsville, KY, the daughter of the late Betty Green Smith Gaddie and Waller Aylette (Bud) Gaddie.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Donald Litton and a brother, Robert (Bobby) Gaddie.

In 1956 Peggy enrolled at Campbellsville University, Campbellsville, KY, graduating in 1958 at only 18 years of age.  Peggy then attended the University of Louisville to obtain a degree as a medical assistant. She then went on to become a highly successful nurse and medical technologist starting her career at Mercy Hospital in Miami, Florida where she spent two years.  She then traveled back home and earned her Medical Technologist certification at Louisville Hospital, leading her to lead a team of over 200 nurses and med techs at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington West Virginia. Peggy was a brilliant student and born leader who rose quickly through the health care ranks and helped establish the practice of medical technology within the hospitals she worked.

It was during her stint in Louisville where she met the true center of her life and loving husband of nearly 55 years, Kenneth Donald Litton. They were married on September 19, 1964. Together, they had one son, Kenneth Donald Litton, Jr.  Together, Peggy and Ken set the benchmark for eternal matrimony, loving parents and making a happy home. They moved from Huntington to Charleston where they raised their family together.  Peggy was actively involved in the church and community volunteering her time to the local hospice and homeless shelter efforts. She was the consummate entertainer of family and friends of which she had many. She was a true ‘southern lady’ with the style, poise and class of Jackie Kennedy and with genuine warmth and compassion that made all who came within her presence feel truly cared for and welcome. In 1990 she and Ken moved full time to their bucket list destination, Flat Top Lake, West Virginia where they had been a member since 1974. It was there when Peggy went back to school and graduated from Concord University in Athens, West Virginia with a 4.0 GPA in Accounting.

Perhaps Peggy’s greatest accomplishment was being arguably the world’s greatest grandmother and great-grandmother to which she was a constant loving support and fierce advocate.
