Bennie Clay Montgomery, 72, of Green County, KY, son of the late Benjamin Johnson “B.J.” Montgomery and Ruby Janelle Curry Montgomery, was born on September 15, 1951 in Campbellsville, KY and departed this life early Saturday, December 30, 2023 at his home surrounded by loved ones.

 

Bennie had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Campbellsville Baptist Church. He was a former banker for the then Greensburg Deposit Bank, owner of Convenient Food Mart, and sales manager for Commonwealth/Transamerica Insurance Company. Bennie loved horseback riding and hunting. He was past treasurer and past president for the Greensburg Rotary Club, an honorary Kentucky Colonel, and a member of the Hill and Valley Saddle Club, but was mainly known for his love for his grandchildren and family.

Evelyn Marie Taylor Edwards, 82, Greensburg, KY

 
Evelyn Edwards, 82, of Greensburg, KY,

daughter of the late Dewey and Myrtle Taylor was born March 19, 1941 in Williamsburg, KY and departed this life surrounded by the love of her family on Saturday, December 30, 2023.

 

Evelyn had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Greasy Creek Baptist Church. She worked as a car hop at Parkette Burgers and made parachute packs in a factory before raising her children. She prepared meals for a multitude of patients and staff while working eighteen years in the Dietary Department of Jane Todd Crawford Hospital before retiring to care for her mother. Evelyn loved being outdoors, surrounded by beautiful flowers and anything regarding Elvis Presley. She loved and nurtured her family, many of their friends, and anyone who needed a helping hand.

 

She spent her life loving her husband Richard who preceded her in death in 2011. She loved to beat him playing cards whenever possible. She  raised their daughters to be independent thinkers who are outspoken and resilient while standing up for themselves and against bullies. She sewed beautiful quilts that will warm generations of her family.

Alta Mae Hargan, 88, Vine Grove, KY

 
Alta Mae Hargan, 88, of Vine Grove, KY, a daughter of the late Ollie Mulquin and Nellie Hutcherson Mulquin, was born Friday, March 22, 1935 in Hardin County, Kentucky and departed this life on Saturday, November 25, 2023.

 

She had made a profession of faith in Christ and throughout her life, Alta remained devoted to serving the local community and was an active member of Stovall United Methodist Church. She lived by the motto “One day at a time.”

 

Alta was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Russell “Pug” Hargan; one sister, Mary Helen Mulquin; one brother, Hubert Mulquin; and a great-nephew, Shelby.

Blondina Kidd Wood, 81, of Campbellsville, KY died Wednesday, December 27, 2023.

 

She was the widow of Ancil Wood of Campbellsville. Blondina worked as a Chemist and Engineer Tech for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet for 30 years. She was a 1963 graduate of Campbellsville College, where she majored in chemistry.

 

Blondina was preceded in death by her mother and father, Rev. Coy & Mrs. Tisha Kidd. Rev. Kidd pastored various Baptist churches in Hart, Green and Larue counties. Blondina was also predeceased by her sister, Florence Shields of Campbellsville and her brother, William Kidd of Prospect, KY.

Keith Livermore, 90, of Campbellsville, KY, a son of the late Charles Lawrence Livermore and Hazel Ida Wright Livermore, was born December 17, 1933 in Kalispell, Montana. He died at 8:13pmET on Saturday, December 23, 2023 in Elizabethtown.

 

He professed faith in Christ. Keith was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served his country honorably in the United States Navy. While serving, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Keith was a retired owner & operator of Tucker’s Grocery Store in Knifley, KY. He was also a firefighter in Spokane, Washington for 9 years.

 

He united in marriage to Donna Mae Webb April 30, 1955 and she preceded him in death August 7, 2015.

Carlos B. Anderson, 86, of Richmond, KY passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at the Hospice Comfort Care Center in Richmond. He was born on March 10, 1937 in Knob Lick, KY (Metcalfe County), the son of the late Paul Preston Anderson and Opal Jeffries Anderson. 

 

Carlos was a professor in higher education for over 30 years and taught at Campbellsville College, Sun Bennett College, and retired from the University of the Cumberlands in 2009. He was a graduate of Louisville Male High School (KY), undergraduate degree from Georgetown College (KY), masters degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (KY), and masters degree from Washington University (MO). Carlos was dedicated to his family, an ordained minister and teacher of Social Work. He served in short-term ministries to Russia, Romania, Honduras, Chile, and Cuba. Carlos was known for his quiet, kind, artistic, and fun-loving nature. He never met a bird or day that he did not love.

Leonard Guadalupe Salazar, 61, of Campbellsville, KY, the son of the late Leonard Salazar and Teresa Marrufo Salazar of Oxnard, CA was born January 20, 1962 in Santa Paula, CA and departed this life on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at his residence. 

 

He was of the Christian Faith and had worked as a Propulsion Development Mechanic for Aerojet Rocketdyne. He was a member of the Elks Club of Simi Valley, the KY Motorcycle Association, and loved golf, NASCAR, his dogs, and spending time with family.

Lois Daffron, 83, Campbellsville, KY

 

Lois Daffron, 83, of Campbellsville, KY, a daughter of the late Curtis Lee Nunn and Carrie Pearl Anderson Nunn, was born June 2, 1940 in Green County, KY. She died at 5:05 A.M. on Tuesday, December 26, 2023 in Columbia, KY.

 

She professed faith in Christ and was a member of Elk Horn Baptist Church. Lois was a retired employee of Fruit of the Loom in Campbellsville. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Lois also enjoyed fishing. She never met a stranger and she took in anyone and everyone, becoming a stand-in mom whenever needed. There was always room at the table and plenty to eat, as cooking for family and friends was her love language. She saw the best in everyone. If you needed it, she’d find a way to get it. Lois loved the Lord and her family fiercely and she had a hotline to The Lord, Himself. Her prayers moved mountains and covered her whole family. The stories of her unconditional love, kindness and unselfishness will last forever. She is, certainly, resting in the arms of Our Lord.

 

She united in marriage to Tommy Daffron October 8, 1957 and he preceded her in death July 28, 2014.

Russell Lee Priddy, 91, of Louisville, KY, a son of the late Dora Priddy and Alma Jaggers Priddy, was born on August 21, 1932 and passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at his home. 

 

Mr. Priddy had made a profession of faith in Christ, was a member of Fire and Glory Worship Center, and formerly a member of Evangel World Prayer Center for over 40 years. He previously worked for American Standard and Brown and Williamson Tobacco. Russell was a dedicated husband, father, Papaw, and friend to many who cherished the time he spent with them. His presence will be missed by all, and his memory shall be carried on in our thoughts and memories that we share.

Hugh William Bloyd, 83, of Louisville, KY passed away Thursday, December 21, 2023. He was born in Green County, KY to the late Rollin Bloyd and Sylvia Cross on September 18, 1940.

 

Hugh was a Heavy Machine Operator and a member of Local 181. He also attended Cornerstone Worship Center and was an avid hunter.

June Bishop, 85, of Campbellsville, KY, daughter of the late Robert S. Holman and Ellen Joyner Holman, was born November 23, 1938 in Hardin County, KY. She died at 5:56pmET on Saturday, December 23, 2023 in Campbellsville. 

 

June professed faith in Christ and was a member of Campbellsville Baptist Church. She was a public school teacher and homemaker. She was an active member of Campbellsville Baptist Church where she and her husband, Don, taught a Sunday School class for decades. June was an active member of the Campbellsville Professional Women’s Club and spent many years involved in the athletics department at Campbellsville College, now Campbellsville University. She was the biggest cheerleader and supporter for her whole family, especially for her husband, Don. She often referred to him as her hero. June has left a legacy of faith, beauty and grace that all women would aspire to have.

 

She united in marriage to Don Bishop July 7, 1957 and he preceded her in death December 27, 2017.

Garry was a retired cabinet maker. He manufactured cherry furniture for 61 years. He enjoyed mowing and spending time outdoors. Garry has loved singing gospel music since 1975 and has been singing with the Living Waters Gospel Group for over 18 years. He professed faith in Christ and was a dedicated member of Mt. Zion Church of God for many years. Garry was a school bus driver for the Adair County School System for 27 years.

James Hayden “The Snowman” Montgomery, 85, of Campbellsville, KY, son of the late Fred and Maddie Perry Montgomery, was born on September 23, 1938 in Green County, KY. He departed this life on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at his residence.

 

Mr. Montgomery served his country honorably in the Kentucky Army National Guard 623rd Field Artillery Battalion. He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Pitman Valley Baptist Church. As owner and operator of Montgomery Summer Snow in Campbellsville, his personality and shaved ice creations made for a popular spot for kids and adults.

Jeffrey Alan Dicken, 66, of Campbellsville, KY passed from this life on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at Taylor Regional Hospital. He was born in Taylor County on July 13, 1957 to the late Herbert and Sue (Wolford) Dicken.

 

He was a veteran of the United States Army and of the Christian faith.

She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church and a housewife.

Phyllis was a homemaker and provided childcare. She enjoyed reading, baking cookies, nature, and flowers, and taking trips to Gatlinburg with her family. Phyllis professed faith in Christ and attended Campbellsville Baptist Temple.

James “Jim” Eddie Douglas, 73, of Greensburg, KY was born October 26, 1950 in Lancing, Michigan to the late Virgil Lee and Doris Irene Whitmore Douglas. He departed this life on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at Jane Todd Crawford Hospital in Greensburg.

 

He was a Veteran having served in the Army during the Vietnam War.  He received a National Defense Service Medal, A Good Conduct Medal, and an Army Commendation Medal. He received his bachelor’s degree and had a degree in Law Enforcement.

Bobby Shannon Mullikin, 51, of Campbellsville, KY, (formerly of Greensburg), a son of the late Larry Mullikin and Martha Lee Paxton Mullikin, was born on May, 14, 1972 in Louisville, KY and passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, KY.

 

Bobby had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. He worked as an Electrician for Komatsu Mining Company and had an Associate’s Degree in Industrial Maintenance. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, dirt track racing, and was a major sports fan, especially for the Louisville Cardinals.

Larry Vernon Tungate, Sr., 76, of Campbellsville, KY passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at the Baptist Health Hardin Hospital in Elizabethtown. He was born on October 13, 1947 in Marion County to the late Vernon Nash Tungate and Bernice (Cox) Lawson.
 
Mr. Tungate was a former truck driver for H&O Trucking and was of the Baptist faith. He was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed catfishing and hunting. A talented mechanic, he also enjoyed working on trucks and tractors.

Brenda Sue Sapp, 82, of Campbellsville, KY, daughter of the late Clarence Warner and Geneva Cox Warner, was born April 30, 1941 in Taylor County, KY. She died at 7:36 A.M., Friday, December 15, 2023 in Campbellsville.

 

Brenda professed faith in Christ and was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. She loved her church and all of her church family. Brenda was a retired co-owner and operator with her husband, Clem, of Sapp’s Fruit Market. She was also an employee of Kroger and loved her Kroger family. Brenda enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and decorating and collecting roosters.

 

She united in marriage to Clem Sapp November 4, 1961 and he preceded her in death September 4, 1992.

Mr. Hunt professed faith in Christ and was an active member of the Mt. Roberts Baptist Church. He was a retired over-the-road truck driver having been an owner/operator for many years. He enjoyed all kinds of mechanical work and was a jack of all trades. He never met a stranger and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Joseph Larry Wright, 74, of Campbellsville, KY (formerly of Columbus, IN), passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2023 in the comfort of his home. He was born in Chicago, IL on February 7, 1949 to Mary Edna (Burton) and Joseph Hiram Wright.

 

The day after his birth, he went to stay with his grandparents in Columbia, KY, Eunice Ollie (Coffey) and Owen Elmer Burton, whom he lived with the first five years of his life and their daughters. His aunts took him in as if he was their little brother taking him everywhere, even show & tell at school. His grandmother instilled love, patience, caring, and compassion.

 

Mr. Wright was a Christian man, attending church as often as he could. After high school, he was drafted into the US Army, where he served 2 years. After returning home on May 29, 1971, he married the love of his life, Margaret Aleen Cummins.

 

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his grandparents, and an aunt.

Margaret Lois Pendleton Colvin, 81, was born August 16, 1942 in Taylor County, KY to the late Paul Pendleton and Essie Wilson Pendleton. She departed this life on Friday, December 8, 2023 at the UK Bluegrass Hospice Care Center in Lexington, KY.

 

She was a member of the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Greensburg. She was a homemaker, was employed at H.E. Shively Jewelers, and worked in the attorney’s office with her husband, Bill Colvin, who preceded her in death on April 27, 2019. She also served on the Green County Public Library Board and volunteered with the Girl Scouts.

 

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Steven Trent Colvin on January 22, 2014 and one sister, Mildred Jean Blakeman.

He professed faith in Christ. Kevin was a longtime employee of Toyotomi America in Springfield and had previously owned his own cleaning business, “Kevin’s Industrial Cleaning Services” for more than fifteen years. He was a hard working and determined man who was admired for his bravery and strength. Even after the loss of his arm, he continued to drive his stick-shift Jeep. He enjoyed all UK sports and was a very supportive and proud soccer dad and band dad for his sons.

Beverly (or “Bev” or “Nana”, depending on your relationship), was a cherished mother and grandmother, renowned for her thoughtfulness and caring attentiveness towards her family. She was a woman of strength, facing life’s difficulties with dignity and humor, and perhaps a bit of occasional mischievousness.

He professed faith in Christ and was a member of Lowell Avenue Baptist Church. Larry served his country honorably in the United States Army and was decorated with the Purple Heart award for his sacrifices in the Vietnam War. He was a former co-owner with his wife, Margaret, of Lee’s Famous Recipe in Greensburg for 22 years. He was also a former employee at Fruit of the Loom for over 20 years, as well as Chapel’s Dairy. Larry was a stock car driver who enjoyed racing, as well as playing cornhole and horseshoe, fishing, and watching the Cincinnati Reds and Kentucky basketball.

James Monroe Johnson, 77, of Greensburg, KY, son of the late Grover Johnson and Belva Patrick Johnson, was born on July 10, 1946 and passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2023 at the University of Louisville Hospital.

Dolores Faye Wicker, 81, of Campbellsville, KY was born October 26, 1942 in Bradfordsville, KY to the late K.C. Abell and Velma Irene King Abell, and departed this life Saturday, December 2, 2023 at her residence.

 

She was of the Christian Faith and loved reading, flowers, and animals, and before becoming disabled she liked to fish.

Doug Pickett, 91, Green County, KY

 

Doug Pickett, 91, was born December 5, 1931 in Green County, KY to the late Ewell Hollan Pickett Sr and Anna Mae Twyman. He departed this life on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at the Norton Women and Childrens Hospital in Louisville.

 

He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Greensburg United Methodist Church. Doug was a 1950 graduate of Greensburg High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the Navy, served in the Korean War, and served in the Beachmaster Unit One (BMU-1). He was a mail carrier for 30 plus years for the United States Postal Service in Greensburg. Doug was a life member of James L. Pruitt Post 5813 Veterans of Foreign Wars Greensburg and a Rod Lowe Post 124 American Legion Greensburg, KY life member. Alongside his brother, Sonny, he was the Deposit Bank Little League Baseball Coach. He was a long-time member of the Green County Fair Board, an avid woodworker and nearly made 1,000 cedar boxes that he gave as gifts. He loved Greensburg, loved to fish and he loved the river. He was an avid KY Wildcats fan and liked the Cincinnati Reds.    

 

Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Ada Lou Bardin Pickett on June 16, 2015, having wed December 16, 1955; a brother, Hollan (Sonny) Pickett Jr; and an infant brother, Jack Oliver Pickett.

1 daughter: Millie Pickett of Greensburg

1 son & daughter-in-law: Brad & Vicki Pickett of Callahan, Florida

4 grandchildren: Sabrina Sebastian (David McCormack), Summer Sebastian (Brooke Shaw), Brad Pickett Jr., and Chad Pickett (Stacy Pickett). 

5 great-grandchildren: Elise McCormack, Kellen McCormack, Lincoln Shaw, Raeleigh Pickett, and Ryker James Pickett

2 sisters: Betty Lou Cook of Greensburg and Anita Brown of Elizabethtown

Keith Allen Fields, 37, Greensburg, KY

 

Keith Allen Fields, 37, was born July 30, 1986 in Taylor County, KY to Jerry and Lisa Young Fields. He departed this life on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, KY.

 

Keith had made a profession of faith in Christ and was former pastor of Gradyville Baptist Church and continued to be the youth song leader. He was Sales Manager for iGo Motors of Campbellsville, KY and he helped the entire sales department all across iGo. Keith's gift for people and sales was unparalleled. He also loved to fish and spend time with his children and family.
