Anna Kathryne Tucker McKinney, 92, of Louisville, KY, daughter of the late Castle Tucker and Ada Judd Tucker, was born on Thursday, November 29, 1928 in Green County, KY and departed this life on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at Flaget Hospital in Bardstown, KY. 


She had made a profession of faith in Christ, was a member of the Farmdale Baptist Church and was a homemaker.


She united in marriage to Boyce Dale McKinney, Sr. on December 22, 1949 who preceded her in death on February 7, 2004.

Margaret Faye Shuffett, 88, was born October 16, 1932 in Adair County, KY to the late Robert and Lucille Snow Chapman. She departed this life Saturday, March 27, 2021 at the Green Hill Nursing and Rehab Center in Greensburg, KY.
 
Margaret had made a profession in Christ and was a member of the Liberty Separate Baptist Church. She was retired as an Executive Director of Farm Service Agency. 
 
She was united in marriage to Rollin H. Shuffett who preceded her in death in 2003. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, John Timothy Shuffett; one granddaughter, Hilary Ann Shuffett; and 2 sisters: Bernice Miller and Shirley Baker.

He was a sawmill worker in Hart County.

Dr. Shirley B. Meece, 91, of Campbellsville, KY passed away on Sunday, March 28, 2021 in Campbellsville. She was born in Berea, KY October 2, 1929, the daughter of the late Taylor P. Baker and Marie Gay Baker.

 

Shirley received her PhD in English Literature from the University of Kentucky. She enjoyed a teaching career at Campbellsville University. Shirley loved to travel, visiting many states and countries. For 17 summers she taught English in China. Shirley is remembered as helpful, kind and a dedicated Christian.

 

Dr. Meece was married to Dr. Drewry Meece, April 24, 1965. He preceded her in death.

HAROLD DALTON COX, 82, CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY

 

Harold Dalton Cox, 82, of Campbellsville, KY, son of the late Huston Cox and Beechel Tungate Cox, was born August 28, 1938 in Taylor County, KY. He died at 2:22 P.M., Thursday, March 25, 2021 in Louisville.    

 

He professed faith in Christ and was a charter member of Mannsville Separate Baptist Church but was currently attending Campbellsville Separate Baptist Church.  While attending Mannsville Separate Baptist Church, he was a Trustee, Sunday School teacher and Sunday School Superintendent.

 

He served his country honorably in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Harold also retired from the Kentucky National Guard 623rd Battalion after twenty years of service. Harold was a retired employee of Parker-Kalon in Campbellsville. He was good husband and father and dearly loved his grandchildren.

Goldie professed faith in Christ early in life and was a member of Otter Creek Separate Baptist Church. She was a retired employee of Fruit of The Loom.

 

Goldie united in marriage to Hobert Brewer who preceded her in death February 9, 1990.

Virginia had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Pleasant Run Baptist Church. She had a natural green thumb and enjoyed gardening and cooking for her family. Mrs. Taylor loved to play her harmonica as much as others enjoyed listening.
 
She was the devoted wife to Mr. Ester Wood Taylor who preceded her in death.
 
She was also preceded in death by her children: Bobby Taylor, Ivin Taylor, Danita Gay, and Betty Williams and 8 siblings: Betty Taylor, Naomi B Taylor, Cora Lee Taylor, Hallie Taylor, Charlie Taylor, Henry Taylor, Leonard Taylor, and James T Taylor.

ALTON WAYNE JOHNSON, JR., 41, ELIZABETHTOWN, KY (FORMERLY OF CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY)

 

Alton Wayne Johnson, Jr., 41, of Elizabethtown, KY (formerly of Campbellsville), was born to Betty Lou (Malone) McNay and the late Alton Wayne Johnson Sr. on June 6, 1979. He departed this life on Sunday, March 21, 2021 at his residence.

 

He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Johnson was a personal trainer and co-founder of Body Sculptors in Campbellsville. He was a competitive weightlifter and powerlifter and took pride in motivating healthy lifestyles. He often shared in conversation his testimony in overcoming addictions and his love for the University of Louisville Cardinals.

Eugenia Simpson, 97, was born March 5, 1924 in Green County, KY to the late B.T. and Troy Davis Judd. She departed this life Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at her home in Green County. 

 

She had made a profession in Christ and was a member of the Oak Grove Separate Baptist Church and was a member of the Fruit of the Loom Founders Club. She worked for Fruit of the Loom for 42 years.

 

She was united in marriage to C.G. Simpson for 66 years who proceeds her in death. She was also preceded in death by one daughter: Sandy Gentry; one great-grandson: Christian Judd (CJ) Cooper who preceded her in death on January 14, 2021; 12 brothers and sisters: A.D. Judd, Herman Judd, Agnes Hamblin, Alga Ennis, Tee Judd, Iley Judd, Vernon Judd, Mayme Bloyd, Gracie Moran, Clarence Judd, Earl Judd, and Beth Gentry.

Vestal Lavern Hobbs, 82, of Columbia, KY (the Sparksville Community) and formerly of Howell County, Missouri, passed from this life on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at T.J. Samson Hospital in Glasgow. He was born on June 25, 1938 in West Plains, Missouri to the late Theodore Roosevelt and Daisy Rebecca (Roupe) Hobbs.
 
He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was of the Baptist faith. He was a devoted employee of the Amyx Manufacturing Plant, retiring after 35 years of service.
 
Mr. Hobbs was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Melba Kay (Dodson) Hobbs; 1 son, Vestal Hobbs, Jr.; 2 brothers: Cleo Hobbs and Merle Hobbs; and a sister, Loretta Daniels.

Ruth Rodgers, 87, of Campbellsville, KY, daughter of the late Sie Wood and Callie Antle Wood, was born August 26, 1933 in Taylor County, KY. She died at 9:09pmET on Sunday, March 21, 2021 in Elizabethtown, KY.   

 

Ruth professed faith in Christ and was a member of Palestine Baptist Church and had recently been attending Campbellsville Christian Church with her son.  

 

She united in marriage to Maurice Rodgers August 19, 1950 and he preceded her in death December 11, 1986.

He was a self-employed entrepreneur, owning service businesses and rental properties. “He was a jack of all trades and master of all” was expressed by his family. Joe, as everyone knew him enjoyed mud racing, big trucks, mowing the grass on his tractor, but found great pleasure spending time with family and friends.

Brian Austin Chase, 34, the son of Alan and Gayle (Coats) Chase, was born February 6, 1987 in San Jose, California and passed away Friday, March 19, 2021 at his residence in Campbellsville, KY. 
 
He earned a living in the digital marketing industry, and was of the Christian faith. Mr. Chase was a talented first baseman, playing NCAA Div-1 baseball for San Jose State before joining Campbellsville University. He led the Tigers to the 2009 NAIA World Series with a .483 regular season batting average. He was nationally ranked in the top 10 in several other statistical categories throughout his career as well.

Mary Ann Brown, 86, of Campbellsville, KY, daughter of the late Alvis Brown and Martha Melton Brown, was born March 13, 1935 in Taylor County, KY. She died at 7:58 P.M. on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 in Glasgow.  

 

She professed faith in Christ and was a member of Sunny Hill Drive Church of Christ. Mary Ann began her career in health care at Rosary Hospital, taking classes in nursing care in the basement of the hospital taught by the nuns. She continued her career for more than 50 years in what was later Taylor Regional Hospital; most of her work was in the nursery caring for the newborns. She loved her church family and coworkers and enjoyed traveling as often as possible and was an avid University of Kentucky fan.

Delena Faye Burton, 76, of Campbellsville, KY, daughter of the late Linus Bright and Avis (England) Bright was born in Taylor County on January 29, 1945 and departed this life peacefully on Saturday, March 19th, 2021 at her home in Campbellsville.

 

She was united in marriage on December 27, 1963 to Jerry Dale Burton, who preceded her in death on June 7, 1998.

 

Faye professed faith in Christ and was a member of the Feathersburg Church of God. She loved to garden in her spare time. Faye lived and found true joy in cooking and baking for family and friends. She loved spending time with family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was always there whenever needed; she truly possessed a “servant’s heart”. She worked at Fruit of the Loom and retired after 30 years. Ms. Burton was not one to remain idle, so she went on to work another 11 years for the Taylor County School System and subsequently retired.

 

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 2 sisters: Doris Jean Wilson and Lorena Brockman.

She professed faith in Christ early in life and was of the Baptist Faith.

She was retired from Taylor Regional Hospital after twenty-four years of service and had worked at Wishy Washy Laundry for several years previously. Shirley enjoyed many activities like dancing, shopping, dining out, traveling and spending time with her family. She also loved her flowers and being outdoors.

 

She united in marriage to Donald Eugene Bell who preceded her in death in 1982.

DAVID G. O'BANION, 80, CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY

 

David G. O’Banion, 80, of Campbellsville, KY, son of the late J.V. and Jeanette Gaines O’Banion, was born on January 14, 1941 in Louisville, KY. He died at 5:15 A.M. on Sunday, March 14, 2021 in Campbellsville.  

 

He professed faith in Christ and was of the Baptist faith. David served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1967 to 1972. David graduated from Taylor County High School. He loved working on his parents’ farm where they raised chickens and milked Guernsey Dairy Cattle. He was very active in the Future Farmers of America and shows his Guernsey cattle with his brother, Doug. He first attended Campbellsville College after high school and later attended the University of Kentucky and received his BS in Agriculture in 1964. David and his wife, Charlotte, started their career in 1965 and worked side by side for over 50 years. They first had an H&R Block franchise in Cynthiana and then Harrodsburg. They left H&R Block in 1976 to start the family business of O’Banion Tax Service and Accounting. David and Charlotte also owned and operated O’Banion Farms, raising purebred swine, beef cattle and crops.

 

David was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved and supported his children, grandchildren and any youth that needed assistance, mentorship or friendship. David loved life and was often heard remarking that he had lived a blessed life and he would do nothing different if he had it to do over again. He truly loved being kind to all, always greeted others with a smile that would light up the room and set an exceptional example for his family. 

 

He united in marriage to the love of his life, the late Charlotte Marie Sheeley August 15, 1964. She preceded him in death April 21, 2020.

Judith Ann “Judy” Milby Flanders, 79, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on Thursday, March 11, 2021. She was born October 19, 1941 in the Gabe Community of Green County, the daughter of the late Archie Moss and Sybil Cynthia (McCubbin) Milby.

 

Judy attended LaRue County High School in Hodgenville, KY and was a member of the graduating Class of 1960. She then attended Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green. Judy was the Assistant Director of Beech Tree House Center for Child Development serving for 27 years before retiring in 2005. She was also a member of the Life Point Community Church in Indianapolis. She deeply loved her family and doting over her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She cherished the time she could be with them. Family was important to Judy and she immensely enjoyed the family vacations they took to Florida every year for 38 years.

SAMUEL EVERETT PARSON, 85, CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY

 

Samuel Everett Parson, 85, son of the late Lawrence Parson and Pauline Smith Parson, was born February 23, 1936 in Green County, KY and graduated to Heaven on Friday, March 12, 2021 in Campbellsville, KY.

 

Sam was retired from Fruit of the Loom after 40 years with the company. He professed faith in Jesus Christ and demonstrated that faith through a life of kindness, honesty and integrity. He was an active member of Campbellsville Baptist Temple, where he often served as song leader. He was a gifted singer, loved gospel music and at one time sang with the Joymakers Gospel Group. Sam was known as a gentle, caring, hardworking, generous person. He loved participating in and watching sports, doing yard work, serving at his church and spending time with friends and family.

She retired from Fruit of the Loom after 25 years of service and was of the Methodist Faith. Charlotte enjoyed playing bingo, going on trips, dancing and spending time with family and friends.

She professed faith in Christ and was a member of Campbellsville Baptist Church. Tessie was a retired seamstress, having done sewing at Mitchell’s Men’s Store, Parks Belk Department Store and various other stores in downtown Campbellsville. She enjoyed family time and get-togethers.

 

She united in marriage to R. B. Tincher June 26, 1948 and he preceded her in death July 6, 2010.

Lindsey Allen Berry, 68, the son of Martha (Henry) Berry and the late Anthony Edward Berry, was born in Cynthiana, KY on November 6, 1952. He departed this life on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at his home in Campbellsville.

         

Mr. Berry was a talented photographer and enjoyed the peacefulness of nature. He spent all of his free time outdoors; hiking and backpacking. He was a lover of knowledge and music, who always had a book in his hand, a melody to sing, and a story to share.

Betty Faye Parker, 76, daughter of the late Brack and Mary Bell (Caffee) Grant, was born in Adair County, KY on October 23, 1944. She departed this life on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at the Presbyterian Homes in Louisville, KY.

 

She had made a profession of faith in Christ and attended the Mt. Zion Church of God. Mrs. Parker retired from Fruit of the Loom after 40 years of service, and later began a career as an associate at WalMart.

 

On January 11, 1963 she united in marriage to Mr. Glennis Allen Parker. To this union was born a son, Timothy Parker. Mr. and Mrs. Parker remained a devoted couple over 53 years, separated only by Mr. Parker’s passing on September 28, 2016.

 

Besides her husband and parents, Mrs. Parker was also preceded in death by 2 sisters: Shirley Willis Warren and Gladys Bright.

Bill served his country honorably in the United States Air Force. He professed faith in Christ and was a member of South Campbellsville Baptist Church. He was a retired farmer and Batesville employee. Bill was a member of the Elk Horn Masonic Lodge #568 F & AM and the Classical Glass Corvette Club. He was a gun lover who enjoyed shooting, especially trap and skeet. Bill was a devoted and loving husband and father.

James Frank Ryan,  69, of Greensburg, KY passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at Jewish Hospital in Louisville.

FLOYD EDWARD JUMP, 88, E-TOWN, KY

 

Floyd Edward Jump, 88, the son of the late Edward and Betty (DeGrandchamp) Jump, was born December 21, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan and departed this life on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 in Elizabethtown at the Baptist Health Hardin.


He was a Veteran of the Korean War, having served in the United States Navy.


He was a farmer and former school bus driver for the Elizabethtown Independent School System and was a member of the American Legion Post #82 in Campbellsville.


He united in marriage to Wilma E. Sprowles, who preceded him in death July 10, 2008.

2 sons: Jim Hensley and wife Brenda of Hodgenville and Joseph Curry and wife Tamarra of White City

6 grandchildren: Skyler Heirs, Azrielle Curry, Damron Lei-Sam, Jacob Borders, Jaeden Curry and Charlie Hensley

MARY FRANCES BRIGHT, 99, CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY


Mary Frances Bright, 99, of Campbellsville, the daughter of the late Dan and Lillian (Howell) Smothers, was born September 7, 1921 in Marion County, KY and departed this life on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at her home.

 

She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Mannsville Christian Church and had retired after 30 years of service at Fruit of the Loom in Campbellsville.


Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Bright, in 2006; two sons: Mike Bright and Horace Mitchell Bright; a brother: Raymond Smothers; and four sisters: Kathleen Walls, Sarah Mayes, Edith Raikes and Mabel Ford.

5 children: Roger Bright and wife Pauline, Wanda Bramel and husband Roy, Brenda Wise, Judy Grooms, and Ricky Bright and wife Stella, all of Campbellsville, and Gayle Freeman and husband Jim of Virginia

JOAN DAVIS COOK, 89, GREENSBURG, KY

 

Joan Davis Cook, 86, was born May 14, 1934 in Green County, KY to the late Garland and Victoria Rayburn Davis. She departed this life Sunday, February 28, 2021 at her home in Green County.

 

Joan had made a profession in Christ and was a member of the Old Salem Cumberland Presbyterian Church where she served as secretary for many years. She was a homemaker and babysitter and was a past member of the Green County Homemakers.

 

She united in marriage January 1, 1960 to Ulys Glendon Cook who preceded her in death in June of 2000. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Edith Cook and one brother, Doy Ott Davis.

MARTIN JAMES "MARTY" KUTEY, 70, RUSSELL SPRINGS, KY

 

Martin James "Marty" Kutey, 70, of Russell Springs, KY and Phoenix, Arizona was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 25, 1950 to the late Raymond John and Mary Celia (Tedesco) Kutey. He departed this life on Monday, February 8, 2021 at his home in Phoenix.

 

He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Cross Creek Church in Russell Springs. Mr. Kutey was a veteran of the United States Army and earned the right to wear several medals, including a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart, during his two tours of duty in the Vietnam War. He was the former owner of Pinehurst Motel, a proud patriot, and a talented welder and mechanic.

NORMA JEAN "SISSY" FRANKLIN, 85, CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY

 

Norma Jean “Sissy” Franklin, 85, daughter of the late James Barnett and Bertha Bryant Barnett, was born May 10, 1935 in Taylor County, Kentucky. She died at 4:00 P.M., Saturday, February 27, 2021 in Campbellsville. 

 

She professed faith in Christ and was a member of Pitman Valley Baptist Church. Norma was former employee of Fruit of the Loom for 47 years. After retirement she worked at Orville’s as a cook for 17 years. She loved to read and work in her flowers. She got great enjoyment cooking, spending time with her family and working on the farm with her husband.

 

She united in marriage to James “Jimmy” Franklin October 5, 1957 and he preceded her in death December 13, 2016.

William "Bill" Leslie Simpson, 83, of Louisville, KY, son of the late Walter B. Simpson and Jessie Hay Simpson, was born on Friday, February 4, 1938 in Green County, KY and departed this life on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at the Baptist Health Louisville Hospital. 


He had made a profession of faith in Christ, and was a supervisor for Greyhound Bus Lines for 40 plus years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Augusta Lee Pence Simpson on January 6, 1975 having united in marriage in 1959.

Lillie Ellen McCubbin Bean, 87, of Greensburg, KY, daughter of the late Claude E. McCubbin and Lura Goff McCubbin, was born on Wednesday, March 22, 1933 in Green County and departed this life on Sunday, February 28, 2021 at the Bengal Family Care Home in Taylor County. 
 
She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Aetna Grove Baptist Church. She was a former administrative assistant for Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, bookkeeper for the Louisville Cumberland Presbyterian Church, an elevator attendant in millionaire’s row at Churchill Downs, and sold homemade fudge at the Kentucky State Fair.
 
She united in marriage to Ralph Bean who preceded her in death on April 4, 2017.
