Taylor County Man Charged With Attempted Murder

On Saturday, February 24, 2024 at approximately 8:14 AM, Campbellsville Police responded to a report of a stabbing on Buckner Avenue. After an investigation, it was determined that 63-year old Larry Tungate and 53-year old Kimberly Brim both of Campbellsville got into an altercation, at which point Brim sustained stab wounds as a result. Tungate has been arrested and charged with Attempted Murder and lodged in the Taylor County Detention Center. Campbellsville University Student Murdered, Man Arrested

UPDATE 6:18pm LjS

 

On Saturday, February 24, 2024 at approximately 12:43 AM, Campbellsville Police responded to Campbellsville University Campus in reference to an unresponsive male. Taylor County EMS arrived and transported the male to Taylor Regional Hospital where he was pronounced deceased by Taylor County Coroner, Daniel Cook. The deceased, 18-year old Josiah Malachi Kilman, was transported to the Kentucky State Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville for an autopsy.

21 year old Charles E. Escalera has been located and arrested on murder charges.  

The investigation continues by detective Burton with Campbellsville Police.

Campbellsville Fire Alarm Early Today and Damage to a House

Campbellsville Fire-Rescue was dispatched to a report of a working house fire early this morning just after 3am at 608 Hunters Run, chief Chris Taylor told 99.9 Big dawg News that upon arrival, firefighters found moderate smoke coming from an enclosed porch on side C of the structure. Firefighters extinguished the fire, searched for occupants and provided overhaul.

The cause of the fire is related to smoking materials with moderate damage to the enclosed porch. No firefighter or civilian injuries were reported.

Campbellsville Police Safety Checkpoint Announcement

The Campbellsville Police Department will be conducting traffic safety checkpoints throughout Campbellsville. 

 

During the checkpoints officers will be enforcing laws related to operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, licensing of motor vehicles and operators, registration and insurance violations, seat belt and child restraint violations, and motor vehicle equipment violations. 

 

Below is a list of traffic safety checkpoint locations.  These roadway locations include, but are not limited to:

  1. KY 3183 (Meader Street) at the intersection of Chandler Street
  2. KY 3183 (South Columbia Ave.) at Amazon
  3. KY 3518 (Roberts Road Bypass) at Industrial Road
  4. KY 527 (North Central Ave.) at Valero
  5. KY 323 (West Main Street) at Sheridan Drive
  6. Carnation Street
  7. East Walnut Street at Industrial Drive
  8. Martin Luther King Blvd. at Allen Street
  9. KY 70 at Watertower Road Bypass
  10. KY 55 at KY 1061 (Lone Valley Road)

 

Traffic Safety Checkpoints are a valuable tool used to promote the safety and well-being of the public as well as providing police with visibility and interaction with the community.  Checkpoints are utilized throughout the Commonwealth to help promote highway safety. 

Campbellsville Firemen Called out Monday Morning to a Structure Fire

Campbellsville Fire-Rescue was dispatched to a report of a working house fire Monday morning at 10:43AM, fire chief Chris Taylor told 99.9 The Big dawg News that upon arrival, firefighters found moderate smoke coming from the upstairs of the house, firemen extinguished the fire, searched for occupants and provided overhaul.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. All occupants were able to escape the residence but a 12 year old sustained minor burns and was transported to Taylor Regional via Campbellsville Taylor County EMS. Firefighters rescued two dogs from the residence and provided oxygen. No firefighter injuries were reported.

Two Vehicles Collided on Greensburg Road, One Person Injured

Taylor County Sheriff Department investigated a two vehicle accident on Greensburg road on Thursday February 15th, sheriff Dickie Benningfield reports that a a vehicle driven by Tony Jewell age 60 of Greensburg was traveling west on US 68 when he abruptly slowed to avoid a dog in the road and was struck in the rear by an auto operated by Charlotte Suratt  age 56 of Greensburg.

Jewell was not injured, Suratt was treated at Taylor Regional Hospital.

The mishap occurred Thursday at 4:22pm and was investigated by sheriff Dickie Benningfield.

Kentucky State Police Death Investigation Leads to Murder Indictment

COLUMBIA, Ky. (February 15, 2024) – Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 15 Detective B.J. Burton presented the results of an extensive death investigation to the Adair County Grand Jury which has returned an indictment for murder.  

The Adair County Grand Jury has returned an indictment on Jamie Hendriksen, age 24 of Columbia, charging her with Murder.  The charge stems from the investigation into the death of Ms. Hendriksen’s 3-year-old child that occurred on the evening of August 29, 2023 at a residence on Jay Wheeler Road in Adair County.

On February 12, 2024, Senior Trooper Brandon Roark served the indictment on Jamie Hendriksen at a residence in Adair County.  Ms. Hendriksen was arrested and lodged in the Adair County Detention Center. 

The investigation is being led by Detective B.J. Burton.  Detective Burton was assisted by other KSP Post 15 Troopers, Detectives, and the Adair County Sheriff’s Office.

Casey County Man Arrested by Homeland Security on Criminal Drug Charges

Homeland Security Investigations out of Louisville, KSP Desi West, Casey County Sheriffs Office and DEA out of Lexington executed a federal search warrant at the address of 618 Brinson Place in the Eastern part of Casey county. Casey County Sheriff Chad Weddle told 99.9 The Big Dawg, the search warrant lead to the following items of evidence being found approximately 50 pounds of methamphetamine, 3 kilo of cocaine, 4 pounds of heroin, a 9mm handgun, and approximately 100+ thousand dollars in cash. 

Roger Mullins age 73 was arrested for trafficking in methamphetamine trafficking in heroin, trafficking in cocaine and trafficking in marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Six Month Old Child Dead, Campbellsville Mother Charged with Manslaughter

On Friday, February 2, 2024 at approximately 10:00 p.m., Campbellsville Police and Campbellsville-Taylor County EMS received a call of a 6-month old female not breathing. EMS and Campbellsville Police arrived on scene and located a deceased 6- month old female.

After an investigation involving Campbellsville Police, Taylor County Coroner, and Cabinet for Health and Family Services, 24-year old Haley Jade Fisher of Campbellsville was arrested and charged with the following: Criminal Abuse 1st Degree-Child 12 or Under Manslaughter 1st Degree Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Fisher is lodged in the Taylor County Detention Center in Campbellsville.

Mobile Home Fire Wednesday in Taylor County

Taylor County Fire Department was dispatched to 904 North Garnett Rd Wednesday morning for a residential structure fire, upon arrival firefighters found a single wide mobile home with smoke showing from the exterior.
 
Firefighters made entry and found a small fire in the kitchen area. The fire appears to have started in or near a trash can and spread to the nearby cabinet and curtains. Fire damage was contained to the immediate area, however the entire residence had some smoke damage.
The resident was alerted to the fire by working smoke detectors and was able to safely exit the residence.
