Man in Critical Condition After Being Struck by Car in Campbellsville

On 03/26/2023 Campbellsville Emergency Services were dispatched to a vehicle vs. pedestrian injury accident on Lebanon Avenue near Wildflower Drive. Through investigation Officers determined Eugene Lewis of Campbellsville stepped from the side of the roadway into the lane of travel of George Lapradd of Campbellsville. Lapradd attempted to avoid striking Lewis, but was unable to and struck Lewis with the side of his vehicle. Lewis was airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital for treatment for his injuries. Lewis is listed in critical, but stable condition.

Taylor County Fire Department was dispatched to a camper on fire located behind the residence at 10079 Hodgenville Rd. Upon arrival Firefighters found the camper fully involved and a two story vinyl sided residence with heavy fire on the rear of the structure and in the attic. Additional resources were requested for additional manpower and water. Firefighters extinguished the fire and were on scene for four hours. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported however, two pets did perish in the camper.

Greensburg Courthouse Struck by Lightning Friday Night

The fire alarm sounded in Greensburg late Friday night, the location was the 1930's courthouse on Court Street, Greensburg Fire Chief Lawrence Gupton told 99.9 The Big Dawg News that the courthouse was struck by lightning during a thunderstorm causing a small fire in the Green County Sheriffs Department, wiring in the sheriffs department along with radio equipment received damage, the courthouse was closed Saturday due to the weather related incident. The alarm time was around 11:30pm ct.

 

Kentucky State Police Arrest Tennessee Man After Multiple County Pursuit

Edmonton, Ky. (March 22, 2023) – The Kentucky State Police in Columbia received information from the Pulaski County dispatch of a strong armed robbery and theft of a vehicle from inside Somerset at approximately 10:34 a.m. CT.  The vehicle is a black Kia Soul and last seen on the parkway traveling west.  

Trooper Jamie Heller along with other Troopers from Columbia Post were given the vehicle information to attempt to locate on the parkway.  Heller was able to locate the vehicle traveling west on the parkway at a high rate of speed.  When Heller attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver identified as 32 year-old Matthew Cole of Madison, TN refused to stop and accelerated to speeds over 100 mph.  During the pursuit, Cole stopped his vehicle in the roadway and shifted to reverse ramming his vehicle into the front of Heller's police Tahoe.  Cole continued west where troopers with Columbia Post were able to successfully use tire deflation devices. Cole ran the vehicle off the right side of the parkway through a fence into a field.  Cole was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit.  Cole was lodged in the Adair County Jail and charged with the following:

  1. Speeding 26 mph or greater
  2. Reckless Driving
  3. Operating on a Suspended License
  4. Fleeing or Evading Police 1st Degree (Motor Vehicle)
  5. Fleeing or Evading Police 2nd Degree (On Foot)
  6. Resisting Arrest
  7. Assault 3rd Degree Police Officer
  8. Wanton Endangerment 2nd Degree
  9. Recovery of Stolen Property
  10. Armed Robbery 1st Degree
  11. Theft of a Motor Vehicle over $10,000

Fire Alarm Sounded Saturday in Campbellsville

Campbellsville Fire-Rescue was dispatched to a report of a working house fire Saturday afternoon, upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke conditions throughout the house, firefighters searched for occupants (finding and rescuing one dog), provided vertical ventilation, extinguished the fire, and provided overhaul. No firefighter or civilian injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is believed to be related to a floor furnace. 

 

*Firefighter/EMT/Veterinarian Wilk and Campbellsville Taylor County EMS provided immediate aid to the dog, leaving the dog in good condition.

Train Derailment at Glendale Being Investigated

 

A statement issued on the CSX train derailment on Hodgenville Road at Glendale...

"At approximately 2:54 p.m. Thursday, a CSX train went into emergency attempting to avoid a collision with a semi-truck and trailer stuck on the crossing at the Hodgenville Road crossing in Glendale, KY. Preliminary reports indicate that 21 railcars derailed as a result of that emergency action. One of the derailed cars collided with an occupied vehicle near the crossing.  It has been reported the occupants have non-life threatening injuries.  There are no reported injuries to the crew of the train and no hazardous materials are involved.  We appreciate the swift response of Hardin County first responders. CSX crews are on site working closely with local emergency responders to assess the situation and develop recovery efforts. The safety of our employees and the community are our top priority as we work to restore the area.” – CSX Media Team

Firefighters extinguished the fire, provided overhaul and searched for occupants. No firefighter or civilian injuries were reported. The house was abandoned but we had reports of homeless people living inside the basement, he cause of the fire is under investigation.

Shooting in Taylor County Being Investigated by Sheriff

A property dispute on highway 70 at Acton resulted in a 60 female being shot in the hand Tuesday night, sheriff Dickie Benningfield told 99.9 the Big Dawg the case is under investigation and more details will be released.

As of this morning Taylor County Recc reports 1,400 meters were without service,  contractors from other states are in the area working to restore power to all Taylor County RECC customers.   
 

Kentucky State Police Investigates the Murder of a Missing Person in Metcalfe County

EDMONTON, Ky. (March 3, 2023) - On August 11, 2022, Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 15, received a call from Metcalfe County Sheriff’s Office requesting assistance investigating a missing person from a residence on Breeding Road in Metcalfe County.

KSP Troopers and Detectives responded to the area and learned Corey Nathan Hart, age 35 of Greenfield, Wisconsin, had been reported missing.  KSP launched an investigation into Mr. Hart’s disappearance. 

On February 22, 2023 at approximately 9:30 A.M. CST, KSP received information that an individual had located possible human remains on Betty Sparkman Road in Metcalfe County.  KSP Troopers and Detectives responded to the area and confirmed the remains were indeed human.  Due to the use of rapid DNA testing technology, the state medical examiner’s office was able to quickly identify the human remains to be Corey Nathan Hart. 

During the ensuing investigation, Detectives obtained information leading to the issuance of an arrest warrant charging Christopher Leon, age 38 of Calipatria, California, with the murder of Corey Nathan Hart.  On February 23, 2023 at approximately 1:48 P.M. EST, Trooper William Spears of KSP Post 12 in Frankfort served the warrant and arrested Mr. Leon in Lexington.  Mr. Leon was lodged in the Fayette County Detention Center.

KSP Detective Mike Dubree continues the murder investigation.

Man Arrested after Stealing Auto From Don Franklin and Fleeing Police

On February 28, 2023 at approximately 2:10 A.M. CST, Kentucky State Police (KSP) received a call to observe for four Dodge Challenger Hellcat vehicles that had been stolen in Somerset.  A KSP Trooper observed the four vehicles and attempted to perform a traffic stop on them on the Cumberland Parkway in Adair County for a speeding violation.  The vehicles did not stop when the Trooper activated his emergency equipment and a pursuit ensued.  The pursuit continued until Troopers were able to deploy a tire deflation device and disabled the vehicle on I-65 in Warren County.  Upon termination of the pursuit, the suspect, Caveze C. Jones, age 19 of Vestavia Hills, Alabama, was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit. 

Mr. Jones was arrested and lodged in the Warren County Detention Center.  Mr. Jones was charged with the following charges:

  • Speeding 26 or More Over Speed Limit
  • Fleeing or Evading Police – 1st Degree (Motor Vehicle)
  • Wanton Endangerment – 1st Degree (Police Officer)
  • Receiving Stolen Property - $10,000 or More
  • Resisting Arrest
  • And other traffic violations

The case remains under investigation by Trooper Brandon Roark.  Trooper Roark was assisted by other KSP Troopers as well as the Glasgow Police Department.

Green County Woman Died in House Fire Wednesday

On March 1, 2023 the Green County Coroner’s Office was requested at the scene of a residential structure fire on Blue Bird Ln. inside the city limits of Greensburg.
The Coroner’s Office pronounced Tillie Jones, 87 of Greensburg deceased.
Through the Preliminary Investigation, it appears Ms. Jones died as a result of smoke inhalation & thermal injuries sustained in the fire.
The decedent was transported to the Kentucky State Medical Examiners Office for an autopsy. No foul play is expected. The cause of the fire & death remain under investigation by the Green County Coroner’s Office, Greensburg Police Department and the Greensburg Fire Department.

House Destroyed by Fire in Adair County

The Adair County Fire Department responded Wednesday afternoon at 4:08 PM to a residential house fire at 1887 Prices Creek Road. Upon firefighters' arrival, the house was engulfed in fire and was a total loss.  The home was owned by the estate of Margie Dickson. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.  There were 16 firemen on the scene for approximately 2.5 hours.  Breeding Fire Department also responded with automatic aid.
