Elna Kathleen Thompson, 89, Columbia, KY

 

Elna Kathleen Thompson, 89, of Columbia, KY, daughter of the late James Oliver and Annie Cecil (Bault) Long, was born in Adair County on November 5, 1936. She departed this life on Monday, December 22, 2025 at her home.

 

She was the devoted wife to Mr. William Russell Thompson who precedes her in death. Mrs. Thompson had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Yuma Baptist Church. She will be long remembered for her kind heart, her love for her cats, and the simple, heartfelt joy she got from shopping at Walmart.

 

SURVIVORS:

6 children: Gary Long & wife Kena of Lebanon, Donna Mattingly of Springfield, and Glenda Phillips & husband Rod, Brad Thompson, Pam Quinn & husband Todd, and Randall Thompson & fiance Terissa Graham all of Campbellsville

4 stepdaughters: Janet Clark & husband David of Jamestown, Regina Key & companion Leo Abner of Columbia, Zerelda Ervin of Glasgow, and Ramona Dial & husband Kenneth of Columbia

2 siblings: Morgan Long of Columbia and Elaine Clark of Leitchfield

14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren

A host of other family members & friends

 

Besides her parents and her husband, she was also preceded in death by a grandchild and six siblings: Elby Long, Felix Long, Earl Long, Everett Long, Lucille Young, and Alma Green.

 

Funeral Service: Saturday, December 27, 2025 at 11:00amET (10:00amCT) at L.R. Petty Funeral Home, 1765 New Columbia Rd, Campbellsville, KY with Bro Jerry Smith and Bro. Garry Bault officiating

 

Burial: Absher Cemetery in Adair County
 

Visitation: Friday, Dec. 26, from 5:00-8:00pmET (4:00pm-7:00pmCT) at the funeral home 

 

In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials in the form of donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Those can be made in person at the funeral home.
