Phyllis Jean Akin, 81, Columbia, KY

 

Phyllis Jean Akin, 81, of Columbia, KY passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at her residence. She was born in Calsag, IL on September 23, 1943 to the late Vasco and Pearl Gibson Coomer.
 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Bill Dickey Akin in 2015.

 

Mrs. Akin was a member of the Flatwoods Separate Baptist Church. She enjoyed crocheting, doing crafts, especially Christmas ornaments, cooking, fishing, and spending time with her family and friends. 

 

SURVIVORS:

2 children: Karren Loy (Howard) of Columbia, KY and Bill Dickey Akin, Jr. (Angie) of Burkesville, KY

1 stepson: Larry Akin (Rhonda) of Decatuir, AL

15 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren & 1 great-great grandchild

Son-in-law: David Smith of Campbellsville, KY

4 siblings: Cleda Coleman (George) of Tennessee, Ronald Coomer of Russell Springs, KY, Karen Lissak (Bob) of Illinois, and Betty Melson of Columbia, KY

3 sisters-in-law: Dorothy Coomer, Lillie Coomer, and Dawn Coomer all of Columbia, KY

Several nieces & nephews

 

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a daughter, Dinah Smith, and seven siblings: Opal Coffey, Louise Allen, Elwood Coomer, Dale Coomer, Earl Coomer, Donald Coomer, and Maurice Coomer.

 

Funeral Service: Saturday, March 29, 2025 at 11:00amCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with

 

Burial: Antioch Cemetery

 

Visitation: Friday from 4:00-8:00pmCT and Saturday morning until time for the service
