William Lewis Shofner, 86, Greensburg, KY

 

William Lewis Shofner, 86, of Greensburg, KY passed away peacefully, surrounded by love and family, on Friday, September 4, 2026 at Hospice of Lake Cumberland’s Jean Waddle Care Center at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, KY. He was born January 3, 1940 in Summersville, KY to the late Claud Shofner and Georgia Alice Dobson Shofner.

 

William was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a man of strong faith, professing his faith in Christ, and was a lifetime member of Brush Creek Baptist Church.

 

William was a retired employee of Kentucky Trailers of Louisville and was also a former dairy and tobacco farmer. He was a hardworking man who took pride in providing for his family and in the work he did throughout his life. He loved walking, riding his bike, fishing, and mowing his yard and was admired by many for his dedication to staying active, even riding his bike eight miles a day when he was well into his 80s. He loved singing gospel music and was a member of the Brush Creek Singers gospel group in the 1970s, appearing on their studio album, I Know My God Is Real.

 

He was united in marriage to his beloved wife, Brenda Rattliff Shofner, on December 18, 1959. Together, they shared nearly seven decades of marriage, building a life and a family filled with love and memories.

2 sons: Dusty Shofner & wife June of Columbia and Adam Shofner & his significant other, Ann Calhoon of Greensburg

5 grandchildren: Dustin Shofner, Tara Ervin & husband Jared, Jason Shofner & wife Megan, Baylee Bills & husband Grayson, and Kinsy Davis & husband Jordon

7 great-grandchildren: Kiley Ervin, Zack Ervin, Grady Shofner, Baker Bills, Brody Davis, Griffey Shofner, and Jenna Bills

1 sister: Laverne Bale & husband Bobby of Louisville

Sister-in-law: Emma Lynn Shuffett & husband Mel of Greensburg

A host of nieces, nephews, friends & neighbors

 

He was preceded in death by his son, Derrick Jason Shofner, who passed away October 4, 1966; and his brother, Edward Lee Shofner, who passed away March 10, 1970.

Funeral Service: Monday, September 7, 2026 at 11:00amCT at Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home in Greensburg, KY with Bro. Jared Ervin and Bro. Casey Durrett officiating

 

Burial: Bloyd Perkins Cemetery

 

Visitation: Sunday from 4:00pm-8:00pmCT and Monday after 7:00amCT at the funeral home

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to the Bloyd-Perkins Cemetery Fund or Hospice of Lake Cumberland.
