Janet Shields, 73, of Campbellsville, KY passed away at home on the morning of Monday, August 17, 2026 surrounded by her family. She was born on January 27, 1953 in Queens, NY, a daughter of the late Joan (Hummel) Godin and Stanley Croucher Clark Sr.
Jan spent most of her life in Essex County, Massachusetts. As a teen in Beverly, MA, she met the man who would become her husband, Charles A. Shields. They married December 24, 1979 and remained soulmates until his passing in 2020, after which, she moved to Kentucky to be closer to her children and grandchildren.
Jan had a brassy sense of humor and a big heart, a winning combination for making anyone who visited her feel right at home. She always had a spot for anyone that needed a place to stay and no one ever left her house hungry. You might have walked in a stranger, but you left calling her Mom.
Jan grew up in a large blended family, one of 23 siblings. When not visiting with the abundance of nearby family, Jan enjoyed many hobbies: crocheting, macramé (even making a 6ft tall Christmas tree in the mid-80s), decorating cakes for family get-togethers, playing bingo, cards, video games, and backgammon, diving into family genealogy, watching TV shows, listening to music, and trying her luck at the scratch-off tickets. Jan was a long time supporter of DAV, the Wounded Warrior Project, and St Jude’s Charity.
