Gilbert Blankenship, Jr., 70, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at Homestead Acute Care in Lexington, KY. He was born in Greensburg, KY to the late Nancy Carter Blankenship and Gilbert Blankenship, Sr. on May 10, 1956. When he was 6 years old, the family moved to Georgetown, and he remained a Georgetown resident until his death.
He worked at Martin's Sunoco, the original Golden Corral, and O'Charlie's, but Gil worked diligently for many years walking about town collecting aluminum cans. He recycled over 600 pounds over those years. Gil learned to drive later in life but continued recycling. Gil read his Bible religiously. To remember verses and understand the scriptures better, he copied them a little at a time until he had filled many notebooks and read the Bible entirely more than once. Gil was a member of the Georgetown Church of the Nazarene.
