Kenneth Lee Akers, 70, of Mount Sherman, KY was born on November 4, 1955 in Campbellsville, KY, a son of the late Chester and Maymie Akers.
He was raised on the the family farm affectionately called "Walton's Mountain" on Liberty Church Road, until his family moved to Hodgenville, KY. He learned carpentry from his dad and ran his own framing crew by the age of 17. Kenny built hundreds of houses over the years, managed a truss company and Don's Lumber of Greensburg for many years. He came home to the farm and started raising cattle and hay. He opened Mt. Sherman Building Supply until one of many strokes kept him from working anymore. He enjoyed singing, his church and camping with his family.
He was a member of LaRue Baptist Church and led the choir for a period of time. He made a profession of faith early in life, but years later the Lord convicted him that he was not saved. He knelt down in a backfield on the farm and asked the Lord to save him. In doing that, he found a peace that he had never known.
