James Ivan Benningfield, 88, Campbellsville, KY

 

James Ivan Benningfield, 88, of Campbellsville, KY, son of the late Herbert and Gerushia (Thompson) Benningfield, was born in Taylor County on November 17, 1937. He departed this life on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at Taylor Regional Hospital after an illness.

 

Mr. Benningfield had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a faithful member of Jones Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a former employee of Fruit of the Loom, a farmer and custodian at the Taylor County School System. Mr. Benningfield enjoyed singing and woodworking, and if he wasn’t spending quality time with his friends and family, he was often found reading his Bible. In 1955, he married the love of his life, Betty Jean (Burress) Benningfield, and they remained a devoted couple until her passing in March of 2020.

 

He was also preceded in death by two siblings: Raymond Benningfield and Myra McCarthy.

 

SURVIVORS:

3 children: Kay Slocum & husband John of Tennessee, Peggy Rash & husband Mark of Elk Horn, and Tim Benningfield & wife Pam of Lexington

3 siblings: Marjorie Campbell and Laurene Tedder & husband Roy of Campbellsville, and Willa Bryant & husband Joe of Mt. Washington

9 grandchildren: Christy Steagall & husband Ryan, Jamin Humphress & wife Meagan, Cameron Rash & wife Hannah, Kacie Chatman & husband Josh, Chasity Gregory & husband Brett, Cory Rash, Christian Rash, T.J. Benningfield, and James Tanner Benningfield & companion Brenda

10 great-grandchildren: Taylore Steagall, Jaxon Chatman, Millie Humphress, Alyssa Rash, Kaylynn Chatman, Kyla Rash, Hudson Gregory, Nylah Benningfield, James Chatman, and Cade Rash

Several nieces & nephews, including Trena Durham

FUNERAL SERVICE: Saturday, April 4, 2026 at 11:00amET at Jones Chapel United Methodist Church, 580 Bass Ridge Rd., Campbellsville, KY

 

BURIAL: Jones Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery

 

VISITATION: Friday, April 3, 2026 from 5:00pm-8:00pmET at L.R. Petty Funeral Home, 1765 New Columbia Rd, Campbellsville, KY and on Saturday morning after 9:00amET at the church
