H. Wayne Sprowles, 91, Campbellsville, KY


H. Wayne Sprowles, 91, of Campbellsville, KY  passed away peacefully on Monday, March 9, 2026. He was born on December 22, 1934 in Taylor County, a son of the late Willie Sprowles and Katie Nelson Sprowles. 

 

Mr Sprowles professed faith in JESUS CHRIST early in life and was a member of the Campbellsville Baptist Church. 

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 69 years, Mary Helen Allen Sprowles, who passed away in December 2024; infant son, Alan Wayne Sprowles; sister, Sadie Underwood Skaggs and brother, Willard Underwood. 

 

SURVIVORS:

2 daughters: Billie Diane Pyles Mardis of Campbellsville and Retha Sprowles Baumle of Louisville

Grandsons: Brandon Mardis, (fiance' Jayne); Kyle Mardis (fiance' Tracy)

1 great-grand daughter: Makayla Mardis

2 great-great-grandsons: Axton New and Alec Mardis

1 brother: Olyn Sprowles

1 sister: Myrtle Grimes (Billy)

A host of nieces/nephew/cousins and many friends

 

Mr Sprowles worked for 14 years for American Tobacco Co. in Louisville, and then retired after 31 years from Fruit of the Loom in Campbellsville. 

 

Known as “Sporty”, he enjoyed drag racing for many years. He loved buying cars and cleaning on cars, (he always had the cleanest car in town.) He also enjoyed working in his yard, and mowing/trimming shrubs for others.

 

Wayne Sprowles was a humble man who loved his family and friends. 

 

A special thank you to the entire staff at Bluegrass Assisted Living, who cared for him and loved him dearly. 

 

Visitation: Sunday, March 15, 2026 from 12:30 - 1:30 PM

 

Funeral Service: Sunday, March 15, 2026 at 1:30 PM at L.R. Petty Funeral Home in Campbellsville, KY with Dr. Dwayne Norman officiating

 

Entombment: Campbellsville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum

 

In Lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Gideons International.
