Sandra Sue (Chappell) Ayers, 79, of Elk Horn, KY (formerly of Indianapolis, Indiana), passed away Monday, February 16, 2026 at her home. She was the daughter of the late Kenneth Veldon and Hazel Lorraine (Cauble) Chappell.

She was a former municipal employee, having worked for the the City of Indianapolis, the State of Indiana, and the United States Postal Service. She was a member of Old Bethel United Methodist Church and was the devoted wife of Jeffrey Ayers, who preceded her in death on February 18, 2023.

She was also preceded in death by an infant son, Kenneth Warren and a former son-in-law, Richard Wilson.

1 daughter: Kathryn Jo Ayers,

2 sisters: Marilyn Jackson and Linda Powell,

4 grandchildren: Brandy Cooper & husband Brandon, Meagan Cox, Cody Borders, and Nikki Wilson

6 great-grandchildren: Nastaja Cooper, Zeliah Cooper, Brandon Cooper, Jr., L.J. Martin, Alyianna Buntain, and Ava Buntain

A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives & friends

The family chose cremation and no service is planned at this time.

Interment: Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison, Indiana
