OBITS

Imogene Bailey Gabbert, 95, Campbellsville, KY

Imogene Bailey Gabbert, 95, passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 under the meticulous care of Morning Pointe East and Care Navigators/Hospice in Lexington, KY. She fought a courageous battle with an extended illness. Imogene was born to Daniel Banks Bailey and Mallie Graham Bailey in Adair County, KY on June 3, 1930.

Imogene was married to James Edgar Gabbert of Adair County, Kentucky on April 10, 1948 and was happily married for 57 years until Edgar’s death in 2006. They both took their marriage vows seriously and lived a happy life together.

Imogene worked at Fruit of the Loom for 47 ½ years. She enjoyed her work immensely. She began her career at a sewing machine position and rose to an instructor for the last 28 years of her career. She often commented that helping people make a living and succeed at life brought her great joy. Her unit – the 5800 unit – was one of the highest producing units for many years. In some instances, her unit made the merchandise that was displayed in the Fruit of the Loom TV commercials. In her latter years of work, she was flown to other Fruit of the Loom plant sites to help train workers. She never tired of helping people.

Imogene’s greatest joy was her family. She was the mother of Dianne Gabbert Crouch – her only child. She enjoyed helping Dianne grow into adulthood, taking family vacations, hosting family gatherings with her extended family, and having leisure time on Green River Lake.

Imogene was a long-term member of the Campbellsville Christian Church. She enjoyed helping with preparation of communion and going to her missionary group meetings. Her belief in God was her driving force for life.
