OBITS

Brian Mitchell Matney, 54, Greensburg, KY

Brian Mitchell Matney, 54, of Greensburg, KY reached eternal peace on Friday, January 3, 2025. He began his earthly life on September 14, 1970, born to the late Maxie Matney and Deborah (Conner) Matney in Greensburg, KY.

He attended Green County High School. Brian had a deep love for his community and was proud to call Greensburg home. He dedicated his working years to serving as a Deputy of the Green County Sheriff's Department. His commitment to his profession was unwavering and he wore his badge with great pride and honor. Brian treated every individual he encountered professionally with respect, dignity, and kindness.

When Brian wasn't hitting the highway in his police cruiser he could be found cruising the waters of Green River Lake. He owned and loved many boats in his lifetime and experienced his greatest joy when he was on the water. He spent his free time during weekends and summers working at Holmes Bend Marina, where he was able to share his passion and knowledge of the lake and boating with so many people.

He loved nature in all its forms, especially animals. He believed everyone should have a dog. Or two. He lived his life in the company of many beloved pets and even spent time working on a horse farm.

He loved to laugh and never missed an opportunity to make someone else laugh. He loved goofing off with his best friend Tasha and putting a smile on her face. He couldn’t resist a chance to make a corny joke or wear something ridiculous. He loved slapstick comedy. So much so that he had almost every episode of the three stooges recorded on tape so he could watch on repeat.

He was a natural talent in woodworking. He loved making furniture. His generosity of spirit led him to make wooden toys and furniture to donate to children in need.

Brian had many passions in this life, but none were as strong and unwavering as his love of music. Music spoke to him in a way that nothing else could. He loved going to concerts and was even able to meet some members of his favorite bands. He operated a DJ company and flaunted his mixing and scratching skills at countless weddings, proms, parties, and clubs. He delighted in sharing and experiencing music with others.

Brian found great solace in his faith in Jesus Christ. He struggled with his health in his later years and even at his lowest points he gave praise to God and felt his blessings were abundant. Brian exemplified what it meant to be resilient in spirit and to persevere through life’s greatest tribulations.
