Susan Howard Montgomery, 73, was born August 17, 1951 and departed this life on Tuesday, December 31, 2024. She was the daughter of Evelyn Reeves and Milton Howard Montgomery and sister to Robert Milton Montgomery, all who preceded her in death.
Susan was also preceded in death by treasured family friends: Nola and Bruce Clark.
A former Sunday School teacher, she was a member of the Greensburg Baptist Church. A gifted student and writer, Susan was a graduate of Greensburg High School, Class of 1969, Western Kentucky University and Murray State University with additional post graduate work from University of Virginia. Her career in Vocational Rehabilitation for the Commonwealth of Kentucky spanned three decades. In acknowledgement of her impact on the field, she became the first recipient of the Kentucky Office of Vocational Rehabilitation’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Susan was also a lifetime member of the National Rehabilitation Association and Kentucky Rehabilitation Association.
Susan’s passion for history, reading and writing were evidenced in her support of her beloved Greensburg and Green County. She was a member of the Green County Historical Society, Mensa and most recently assisted in the Montgomery Mill Project as well as the ongoing renovation of the Old Courthouse. Her original short stories and poems have been published in Kentucky Monthly and Mensa Magazine. She was a devotee of all things Lincoln and surrounded herself with Lincoln lore and books.
