William Hugh Gorin, 82, Louisville, KY (formerly of Greensburg, KY)

 
William Hugh Gorin, 82, of Louisville, KY, formerly of Greensburg, KY, son of the late Henry Hugh (Shine) Gorin and Roxye O’Banion Gorin, was born on January 10, 1942 in Louisville, KY and departed this life on Monday, August 26, 2024 at the Nazareth Home - Clifton long term care facility in Louisville.

 

After attending high school in Greensburg, Bill attended Centre College graduating in 1964 with a Bachelor of Arts major in English and a minor in Economics. In 1967, Bill obtained his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Kentucky College of Law and became a member of the Kentucky Law Journal. In 1968 he joined the U.S. Navy as a Lieutenant in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps assigned to the battleship USS New Jersey. However, before he had a chance to serve on the ship, the Vietnam war ended and the ship was decommissioned. After serving with both the Legislative Research Commission and the Kentucky Department of Health, Bill joined the Frankfort Law Firm, Stites, McElwain & Fowler in 1972 concentrating in mineral law. As such, he represented his clients at the Kentucky Supreme Court, the United States District Court of the Eastern District of Kentucky, the United States District Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. During his practice in 1989, Bill authored Kentucky Time Limitations for the University of Kentucky College of Law.

 

SURVIVORS:
1 sister: Emma Dee Gorin Bland & husband Daniel (Dan) Bland of Friendswood, Texas
2 nephews: Jonathan Bland (Beth) and children Brayden, Bryleigh and Brittyn, and David Bland (Wendy) and daughter Isabel, all of Pearland, Texas 
First cousins: Walt Gorin (Ann), Martha Brown (Earle), Sam Hodges, June Kelly (Benny), Margi McGuire, Susan Roederer (John), Lana Oue (Tak) and Jerry O’Banion (Karen)
Of special note, Bill leaves behind his dear friends and neighbors Ann Wise and Sr. Mary Jo Gramig. They cared for Bill daily during the duration of his illness at the Nazareth Home facility.

Honoring his wishes, cremation was chosen.
 
Graveside Service: Saturday, September 7, 2024 at 2:00pmCT at the Greensburg Cemetery with Rev. Brenson Bishop officiating
 
The family has requested that expressions of sympathy take the form of a donation to Nazareth Home - Clifton Campus, 2120 Payne Street Louisville, KY 40206.
