OBITS

Diane Clements Newton, 76, Campbellsville, KY

Diane Clements Newton, 76, of Campbellsville, KY passed away on Monday, May 13, 2024 at 12:07 a.m. She was born on October 11, 1947 in Clementsville, KY, a daughter of the late Basil Thomas Clements and Nora Christine Clements Marples.

Diane grew up with many siblings in the countryside of Possum Trot in Casey County. She united in marriage and devoted to James Robert “Robby” Newton on February 12, 1966. She and Robby lived in Tacoma, Washington while he served in the Army. Diane attended St. Bernard Catholic School in Clementsville, Ky. She learned how to cook under her mother-in-law, Elizabeth Newton. Little did she know she would cook for many people over the years at K & N Restaurant, Cumberland House Restaurant, Union Underwear Restaurant and Taylor Regional Hospital. Later she and her husband started Newton’s Country Cookin’ Restaurant where they served the best catfish around. Everyone loved Mammy’s Macaroni and Cheese, Chicken and Dumplings, Meatloaf, Cornbread and Peach Cobbler. She was known to drink coffee many times everyday and sit on the front porch.

Diane loved to travel and go shopping. She went to Hawaii with her son Gerald, Carissa and their kids. She talked about the trip and loved every minute of it. She loved to visit the Great Smoky Mountains and was known to buy every Beanie Baby she could find. Her last adventure was a trip to visit her son’s home in Indianapolis.

She enjoyed gardening where she raised green beans, corn and tomatoes. Every Summer she would can vegetables and say, “you’ll be glad of it when winter comes”! Diane loved working outside in her flowers too.

Diane was sometimes known to be silly as she would sing a Latin song from Catholic School “Ave Maria”. She loved playing the game of Rook and Aggravation with her family.

In her childhood, she professed her faith at the St. Bernand Catholic Church and later accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior and was a member of the Pitman Valley Baptist Church.
