Edward John Matheny, 76, Greensburg, KY

 

Edward John Matheny, 76, of Greensburg, KY, son of the late Joseph Earl Matheny and Virginia Eleanor Connolly, was born on June 26, 1947 in Boston, Massachusetts. He departed this life on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at the University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, KY.

 

He was of the Catholic faith.

 

Mr. Matheny served our Country honorably having retired with over 22 years of service in the United States Navy. Having achieved the rank of Master Chief, Mr. Matheny was also a prior instructor at the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island. Commendations from his time in military service include Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal (4), National Defense Service Medal, Navy Achievement Medal with Combat “V”, Navy “E” Ribbon (4), Navy Commendation Medal (4), Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Over Seas Service Ribbon and Good Conduct Award (5).

 

Ed was a Midnight Rider, a member of the Knights of Columbus, life member of the American Legion, and a life member of Disabled American Veterans. He was a lifelong biker and was a member of the Kentucky Motorcycle Association and a lifetime member of the Motorcycle Riders Association.

His wife of 47 years: Maryann Matheny of Greensburg

1sister & brother-in-law: Virginia & Jack Roberts of Greensburg

A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives & friends

 

He was preceded in death by one brother, John Matheny.

 

Funeral Mass: Friday, May 10, 2024 at 10:00amCT at the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Greensburg 

 

Interment: Friday at 1:30pmCT at Lebanon National Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Marion County Veteran’s Honor Guard

 

Visitation: Thursday from 5:00pm-7:00pmCT and Friday after 7:00amCT at Gupton-Landrum Funeral Home

 

Expressions of sympathy are requested to be made in the form of donations to Taylor County SPCA, which can be made at the funeral home.

 

Gupton-Landrum Funeral Home in Greensburg is in charge of the arrangements.
