Daisy Ellen Hornback Matthews, 84, Hardyville, KY

 

Daisy Ellen Hornback Matthews, 84, of Hardyville, KY, the youngest daughter of the late Herman R. Hornback and Bertha Richardson Hornback, was born on August 30, 1938 in the Oak Hill Community of Larue County, KY and departed this life at the Medical Center in Bowling Green following an automobile accident on Friday, July 7, 2023. 

 

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, McManuel “Mack” Matthews on November 26, 2016 having united in marriage on November 13, 1954.

 

She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of New Life Ministry in Park City. Affectionately known by many as Grammar and Grandad, her and Mack worked as tenant farmers until buying a farm and settling in the Shady Grove Community of Green County in the early 70’s. “Miss Daisy” worked as a cook and foster grandparent in the Green County School System for several years. Her passion and “therapy” were sewing, quilting and crafts. She was the Grammar in “Grammar’s babies” for the last 40+ years. The family business traveled the region attending craft fairs and festivals, making dolls, rabbits, and woodworking items until they were no longer able.

 

SURVIVORS:

3 sons & daughters-in-law: David Ray & Beverly Matthews of Greensburg, Joseph D. & Melinda Matthews, Robert Allan & Brenda Matthews all of Hardyville

1 daughter & son-in-law: Robin & Roland Logsdon of Hardyville

Daughter-in-law: Shannon Matthews of Horse Cave

19 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; & 6 great-great-grandchildren

A host of other relatives & friends

 

Ms. Matthews was also preceded in death by a son, Terry Matthews on May 17, 2008; three brothers and four sisters: Walter Harold Hornback, Albert Ray Hornback, Vernon Louis Hornback, Lucille Jaggers, Kathleen Wilson, Evelyn Elizabeth Hornback, and Anna Christine Hornback; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Service: Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 2:00pmCT at Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home in Greensburg with Bro. Bobby Wood officiating

 

Burial: Houk Cemetery

 

Visitation: Friday from 4:00pm-8:00pmCT and Saturday after 7:00amCT at Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home 

 

The family has asked that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the American Cancer Society or American Heart Association, which can be made at the funeral home.
