OBITS

Floyd Ray Farmer, 88, Campbellsville, KY

Floyd Ray Farmer, 88, a beloved member of the Campbellsville community, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Monday, July 3, 2023. He was born on October 13, 1934 in Franklin, KY, a son of the late Roy and Ella McGlothlin Farmer.

Floyd was an accomplished academic. After attending local schools, he pursued higher education at Western Kentucky University, where he earned both a Master’s degree and a Rank One designation. His passion for education extended beyond his own personal achievements and into his professional life. Floyd dedicated many years to shaping young minds as a band teacher at Taylor County High School, leaving a lasting legacy on countless students throughout his career.

In addition to his teaching tenure, Floyd made significant contributions to his community through his involvement in various associations. He served as the past President of the Taylor County Teachers Organization, where he was a staunch advocate for educators' rights and students' needs. His love for the arts was reflected in his past presidency of the Central Kentucky Arts Series, where he worked tirelessly to bring cultural events to the area. Additionally, Floyd's competitive spirit was on full display during his tenure as President of the local Bridge Club, a role that combined his love for community engagement with his passion for the strategic card game.

Music was a central theme in Floyd's life. As a band teacher, he nurtured a love for music in his students and the broader community. He was often found humming a tune or tapping his foot to an internal rhythm. Even in retirement, Floyd continued to play an active role in local music events and activities. He was a familiar face at school concerts, community performances, and informal jam sessions. His love for music was infectious, and he leaves behind a community richer for his contributions.

Floyd Ray Farmer was a man who lived his life with purpose and passion. He was a loving father, a devoted educator, and a valued member of his community. His intelligent mind and faith-filled spirit touched many lives during his time with us, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. We celebrate his life and the positive impact he made on the world around him. Floyd will be greatly missed, but his memory will continue to inspire us all.
