Greensburg City Fire Chief, Bill Lile, 96, Greensburg, KY

 

Greensburg City Fire Chief, Bill Lile, 96, of Greensburg, KY, son of the late Edward Wayne Lile and Ida Pearle Oakes Lile, was born March 19, 1927 in Springfield, Illinois and departed this life on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at the Campbellsville Nursing & Rehab Center.

 

Mr. Lile had made a profession of faith in Christ, and was a member and long-time trustee at Greasy Creek Baptist Church. He was the former owner and operator of Lile’s Ashland Station, former maintenance worker for the Green County School System, and retired from maintenance for the Jane Todd Crawford Hospital. Mr. Lile was Greensburg Fire Chief and member of the Greensburg/Green County Fire Department starting in 1957. Chief Lile was one of the last founding members of the fire department, and at one time, one of the oldest fire chiefs in the State of Kentucky. He was also a member and former President of the Green County Sportsman Club.

 
Chief Lile was also preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Childers on February 6, 2022; a daughter-in-law, Pat Lile; and one brother and three sisters: Floyd Lile, Marge Kessler, Edith Squires, and Clydene Bagby.

His wife of 70 years: Barbara Reece Lile of Greensburg
1 son: Terry Lile of Campbellsville
1 daughter & son-in-law: Mandy & Mike Cox of Greensburg
Son-in-law: Kenneth “Ken” Childers of Edmonton
5 grandchildren: Melody & Brian Baker of Center, Michelle & Barry Dobson of Campbellsville, Samantha & Luke Buckman of Lexington, Reece & Katelyn Cox, and Briley Cox all of Greensburg
3 great-grandchildren: Brett & Chelsea Dobson, Aidan Grindle, and Isaac Grindle
Sister & brother-in-law: Ann & Tom Mahoney of Elizabethtown
Bonus daughter: Kim Johnson of Greensburg
Bonus grandchildren: Trey & Hayden Walsh

Burial: Greasy Creek Cemetery with Firefighter Rites
 
Visitation: Friday, April 14, 2023 from 4:00pm-8:00pmCT and Saturday after 7:00amCT at Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home
 
The family has asked that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Gideon Bible Fund or to the WHAS Crusade for Children, which can be made at the funeral home.
