OBITS

UDELL "DICK" THORNTON, 84, GREEN COUNTY, KY

Udell “Dick” Thornton, 84, was born September 14, 1937, to the Late Emmerson “Monkey” and Lucille Richardson Thornton in Summersville, KY. He departed this life on Wednesday August 17, 2022 at Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville, KY.

He accepted Christ at an early age and Joined Jacob Grove Baptist Church where he was a faithful member and served on the usher board until his health failed him. He also worked for Summersville Elementary School as a Custodian. He was a lover of the outdoors and spent much of his free time fishing and turtle hunting until he was no longer able to do so. In his later years, his most loved activity was going to visit the sick and shut in. He loved people and always made time to show up for those who were no longer able to get out, even if just for 5 minutes. Mr. Thornton was a wonderful man who touched many lives. He was strong but gentle, he had a witty sense of humor, he was quiet but had a way about him that warmed so many hearts. He will be so deeply missed but his memory will be cherished for a lifetime.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Jeffery Lynn Thornton and a sister, Bernice Dobson.
