Kathy Jo Paxton Dewees, 68, of Lexington, KY, daughter of the late Calvin Booker Paxton and Jean Marshall Hodges Paxton, was born on Sunday, December 27, 1953 in Green County and departed this life on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at Central Baptist Health in Lexington.
Kathy graduated from Green County High School in 1971, received a BA in Music Education from Morehead State University in 1976, and a Rank 1 in Education from the University of Kentucky. She was an elementary music teacher for 34 years, mostly in Fayette County Public Schools.
Kathy had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Southland Christian Church. She loved music-playing the piano and handbells, singing, leading children’s programs at school, and watching her own children perform music. She enjoyed trips to the beach, Bible study, movies, the St. Louis Cardinals, and had a love of cats. Time spent with her family was the most important thing to Kathy and her greatest legacy will be as a loving and selfless mother.

Twin children: Joseph Dewees and wife Linda of Nicholasville, KY and Abby Dewees Franklin and husband Shane of Lexington, KY
2 grandchildren: Anthony Franklin and Alexandrya Franklin both of Lexington

Besides her parents, Kathy was also preceded in death by her beloved sister, Tena Paxton.

The family has asked that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Greensburg Cemetery which can be made at the funeral home.
