Kentucky State Police Investigates Fatal Collision on Lebanon Bypass in Marion County

LEBANON, Ky.  (July 31, 2023) – On July 31, 2023 at approximately 12:48 P.M. EST, Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 15 Troopers responded to a two-vehicle injury collision at the intersection on KY 2154 (Lebanon Bypass) and KY 429 (Saint Rose Road) in Marion County.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Johnathan Maldonado, age 41 of Indiana, was traveling south on Saint Rose Road in a 2012 GMC Terrain when he attempted to cross Lebanon Bypass.  Mr. Maldonado failed to yield the right of way and entered into the path of a 2021 Freightliner traveling west on Lebanon Bypass that was being operated by James Haag, age 58 of Wisconsin.  Mr. Haag was unable to avoid colliding with Mr. Maldonado’s vehicle when it entered the intersection. 

Johnathan Maldonado and a juvenile passenger in his vehicle were transported to the hospital however, they succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced deceased by the Coroner.  Another juvenile passenger in Mr. Maldonado’s vehicle was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.  James Haag was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. 

KSP Post 15 Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Lebanon Police Department, Marion County Fire and EMS, Lebanon Fire, Marion County Rescue Squad, and Marion County Coroner.  The collision remains under investigation by Senior Trooper Weston Sullivan.
