Adair County 911 received a call at 10:14 am of a female that had turned a forklift over on Scott Dial Rd just outside the city limits on KY55 north Adair County Sheriff Josh Brockman told 99.9 The Big Dawg that upon arrival it was found that the operator was pinned under the commercial forklift.
Sheriff Brockman said the preliminary investigation by the sheriffs department shows that Charlene Cowan age 56 of Columbia owner of a local pallet wholesale was loading a tractor trailer with pallets when she dropped off in a hole and the forklift overturned Cowan attempted to jump off but was unable to clear herself free and was struck by the forklift ultimately pinning her under the fork lift, first responders and bystanders worked to get her free from the fork lift and provided care, attempts to secure air medical flight from scene was unsuccessful due to weather, Cowan was taken to TJ Health in Columbia at 11:38am she was pronounced deceased by Adair County Coroner Todd Akin.
The Adair County Sheriffs Office extends its condolences to the family and friends of the Cowan Family as they deal with the loss of their loved one .
