Doug Spears, 59, of the Breeding community of Adair County, KY passed away Monday, April 15, 2024 at the Cumberland County Hospital in Burkesville, KY. He was born in Burkesville on November 17, 1964, the son of the late Billy & Virginia (Pierce) Spears. 
 
Doug was of the Christian faith, a member of the Prices Creek Baptist Church, and worked as a logger for Spears Logging.

Ricky Lane Coomer, 68, Marrowbone, KY


Ricky Lane Coomer, 68, of Marrowbone, KY passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at his residence with his family by his side. He was born in Adair County, KY on December 20, 1955 to the late Coy Odell and Mary Magdalene Morrison Coomer. 

 

Mr. Coomer was of the Christian faith and made a career drilling oil and water wells all over the state for Jimmy Reliford Drilling and Joe Balance Drilling. He enjoyed hunting, being outdoors, staying at his cabin and spending time with his family and friends.

Rosie Jane Zimmerman DeHart, 84, of Russell Springs, KY passed from this life on Monday, April 15, 2024 at the home of her daughter in Richmond, KY. She was born November 8, 1939 in Russell County, a daughter of the late Otha Green and Synthia Elizabeth Fox Zimmerman. 

Ms. Jane was the widow of the late Hollis DeHart, a beloved mother and grandmother, retired teacher and counselor. She was a graduate of Campbellsville University and the University of Kentucky, where she earned her Rank 1 status. Ms. Jane taught special education and served as a guidance counselor in the Russell County School System for over 35 years. She grew up in and was baptized into the fellowship at Square Oak Separate Baptist Church, and later moved her membership to Bethlehem Separate Baptist Church.

1 daughter: Lesa (Kim) Billings of Richmond

3 grandchildren: Taylor (Julia) Billings of Shepherdsville, Evan DeHart and Nathan DeHart of Russell Springs

Lula Clarkson Pettey, 85, of Jamestown, KY passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024 at Fair Oaks Health and Rehabilitation. She was born at home, in Casey County, on September 10, 1938, a daughter of the late James and Hazel Lillian Sanders Clarkson.
 
Lula was a retired home economics teacher and food service manager with the Russell County Board of Education. After retiring from the school system, Lula worked for Home Health Care and the KOA Campground. She was a member of the Russell County Homemakers. Lula lived a very colorful and fulfilled life. Her creative mindset allowed her to accomplish anything she set her mind to. She enjoyed making pottery, crafts, and crocheting, just to name a few. Lula loved karaoke and was a huge Elvis fan.

Larry Ray Hopper, 68, of Dunnville, KY passed away Monday, April 15, 2024 at Fair Oaks Health and Rehabilitation in Jamestown. He was born October 13, 1955 in Somerset, a son of the late Oval Ray and Dortha Mae Chumbley Hopper.  
 
Larry was a retired employee of the Lake Cumberland State Park where he worked for 28 years as an accountant. He enjoyed fishing, working crossword puzzles, and spending time with his grandchildren. His family lovingly describes him as a “Storyteller Extraordinaire.”

Michael Edward Foley, 70, of Russell Springs, KY passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, KY after a short illness. He was born in Russell Springs on March 17, 1954, a son of the late Marvin and Louise Foley.  
 
Michael married Barbara Sue Anderson on January 1, 1989 and she preceded him in death on December 13, 2023. Michael & Barbara shared many years of marriage; they loved to watch UK sports and live life together. He was a long-time farmer and construction worker.
 
In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by three siblings: Helen Foley, Edwin Foley, and Bruce Foley; and by one grandchild, Warren Chase Blakey.

Gene worked at Tarter Gate as a welder.

Timmy Ray Stephens, 61, of Russell Springs, KY passed away Thursday, April 11, 2024 at the Jean Waddle Care Center in Somerset. He was born September 7, 1962 in Anderson, Indiana, a son of Jean Stephens Hubbard and the late Elbert Stephens. 
 

Tim was a farmer and a “Jack-of-all-trades.” He milked cows, grew tobacco and vegetables commercially, and was the co-owner of Stephens’ Nursery. He was a welder, his own personal veterinarian, and a carpenter. When it came to farming, you name it - he could pretty much do it.

Patricia A. Rucker, 88, of Columbia, KY died Thursday, April 11, 2024 at Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville. She was born January 18, 1936 in Adair County to the late Herman and Jewell Rose McLean. 

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons: Brent Ollery and Mike Ollery.

 

Pat was a member of Kellyville Community Church, had worked at Osh Kosh B’Gosh, and was a homemaker.

Mark Anthony Deel, 43, of Russell Springs, KY passed from this life on Thursday, April 11, 2024 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, KY. He was born July 20, 1980 in Indianapolis, Indiana, a son of the late James Galbreath and Brenda Polston Galbreath (who survives). 

 

Mark seemed to know just about everyone in Russell County. He loved playing pool, going fishing, and spending time with friends and family.

Penny K. Pierce, 66, of Columbia, KY died Thursday, April 11, 2024 at the home of a daughter in Richmond, KY. She was born October 3, 1957 in Muncie, Indiana to the late Mitchell and Irene Goodman Bell. 

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two grandchildren: William and Dakota and one brother, Mickey Bell. 


Penny was a member of the Green Hill Baptist Church in Monticello and was a homemaker.

Deva Anderson, 80, of Russell Springs, KY passed from this life on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, KY. She was born on September 14, 1943 in the Font Hill community, a daughter of the late Everett “Hook” and Dona Wells Wilson.  
 
Mrs. Deva was a member of Russell Springs First Baptist Church. She was a lady who had a big heart and a giving spirit. Mrs. Deva never met a stranger and loved to joke around and laugh. She was a great cook and enjoyed working with her flowers. Mrs. Deva loved her family dearly.

Joe David Stephens, 82, of Russell Springs, KY passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at his home. He was born in Russell Springs, KY on March 6, 1942, a son of the late Lee Stephens and Lillian (McQueary) Stephens.
 
Joe David was a carpenter.

Johnathon Sizemore, 36, of Jamestown, KY passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at Russell County Hospital. He was born in Campbellsville, KY on August 4, 1987, a son of Carol (Marcum) Sizemore of Jamestown, KY (who survives) and the late Oscar Sizemore.

Timothy "Timmy" Russell Fox, 64, Russell Springs, KY


Timothy "Timmy" Russell Fox, 64, of Russell Springs, KY passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, KY after a short illness.

Timmy was a loving son, father, and brother. He was fun-spirited and loved to joke around. Timmy loved spending time with his family and friends, especially if it involved UK basketball. He had a heart for animals and shared a special bond with his loyal companion, his dog Eli. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Timothy was preceded in death by his wife Tammy Fox, his parents Cuthburt and Audeen Fox, and his brother Roy Fox.

Yvonne Popplewell, 86, Russell Springs, KY


Yvonne Popplewell, 86, of Russell Springs, KY passed away on Friday, April 5, 2024 at Fair Oaks Health and Rehabilitation in Jamestown. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on October 30, 1937, a daughter of the late Cosby Popplewell and Ollie Johnson Popplewell.
 

Yvonne was a member of the Russell Chapter #432 Order of the Eastern Star and attended Coffey’s Chapel Church for many years. Yvonne was the owner of Alligator Dock #1 in partnership with her brother until his death in 2000. After her brother’s death, she remained owner until spring 2006, at which time she sold the dock. She loved the lake and the many friends she made over the years, especially the houseboat customers. Yvonne enjoyed spending time in Fort Myers, Florida. She treasured her time and memories shared with her beloved dog, Chase.

1 daughter: Karen (Barry) Roy of Windsor

2 grandchildren: Vanessa (Kevin) Clements of Windsor and Kevin Booth of Russell Springs

2 great-grandchildren: Brooklyn Booth and Landon Booth of Russell Springs
 

In addition to her parents, Yvonne was preceded in death by her husband, Hebert Johnson; two sons: Joe Booth and Mike Booth; one daughter, Sherry Sanders; and one brother, Ervil Popplewell.
